It may be.
I went to The Place fairly often in the 90s, when I lived in Bowness. It was a nice little neighbourhood hole in the wall.
A few years ago I went there with a friend. The service was so bad, they never bothered taking our order and gave us attitude for asking them to. We went elsewhere. Never been back since, never missed it.

About time. The dome is a dump. Can't wait to go to some Flames games and concerts in the new arena.

How long did Scotiabank sign on for when they took over from Pengrowth in 2010?

Since the arena in Halifax is Scotiabank Centre, the one in Toronto is Scotiabank Arena, and the one in Ottawa used to be Scotiabank Place, I'm holding out hope they'll choose something a little unique.
I was thinking Forum would be a good one. It has a classic feel and there aren't any Forums left in the NHL, so it would still have uniqueness. If anyone complains, we can point out that the Flames are just honoring their history as the only team (other than the Habs) to win the Cup at the old Forum.

I'm 99% sure I read that they are hoping to hand over the building between May and August 2027 with full opening for the 2027-2028 season.

I thought so too but then I went and looked at the TSN piece on it and they said ready for the 26-27 season.

Looking for recent info I found this from Oct. 2023
https://calgaryherald.com/news/local...-not-finalized
Quote:
After a provincial official suggested 2026-27 as the hopeful completion date for Calgary’s future event centre and hockey arena, a City of Calgary official says it is still too soon to commit to any firm timelines.
|
And this must've been what I remembered...
https://flamesnation.ca/news/road-an...ins-next-month
Quote:
Construction on the new home of the Flames (and Hitmen, Roughnecks and Wranglers) is expected to take a little less than three years, with building handover sometime between May and August 2027 and the facility being open full-tilt in time for the start of the 2027-28 National Hockey League season.
|
So maybe still some hope they get it done in time for 2026-2027 but delays are all but guaranteed so 2027-2028 is more realistic.
