Yeah sometimes I forget how bad they were.

It should be a good battle for that 1st overall pick. I don't think just 1 team has the best shot at it, it will be a few teams in the mix.

I think Coronato is the odd man out. Mainly because of the waiver rules.

In reality I think Mantha should be the odd man out. He’s a gap filler and the only guy “getting in the way”. Although maybe he will surprise me.

I look forward to a couple of prospects forcing the Flames' hand in camp.

Coronato, and Klapka are my picks to become potential difference makers at forward.

Brzustewicz, and Solovyov on D.

I suspect Mantha was signed to buy time for Coronato. When Coronato shows he's ready for a top-9 position, Mantha will probably be trade bait. I haven't heard any reports that he has trade protection of any kind.

Do you think a guy who can only get one year in FA as a starting point would have to be even more special than Mantha in order to get trade protection?

When the competition for roster spots is done this camp, I think Coronato get the spot on Backlund and Coleman’s line.

Pelletier needs a big camp or he’ll be the odd man out. I’m not sure I see Rooney in the plans if Pospisil, Sharkbait and Zary all look good at centre. Maybe Flames will forego a traditional 4th line and roll four.

I doubt we are a bottom 5 pick, we always tend to play better. As long as we’re a top 10 pick again like this year, I’ve no doubt we will get a top end center for the future. I think we pick 6th or 7th OA barring a lottery win. And that’ll still be an amazing pick.

If we are not bottom 5, it will be because players like Wolf and Zary showed out, which I will be very ok with. Or like randomly Huberdeau puts up 100 points again LOL

We also would need to continue our incredible trend of not having any injuries. That has helped the team immensely over the past two seasons.

With this much competition this year my hope is that it keeps guy on thr main roster looking over their shoulders.

Coaching staff I hope will continue on Snowys tradition of keeping tabs on people to make them feel welcome and a part of a big picture. I don't think it's been stated enough that Snows role and shoes are big ones to fill .

It makes me wonder if veteran players themselves will take on this role.
Tanevs absence will be felt as well as he was known as pops . Leading the example of what it looks like to be a player on and off the ice . I hope throughout the organization that all these invites be shown what it means to be a flame on and off the ice because this isn't the Edmonton Oilers where we accept being seen in public going to the liquor store, being a jackwagon in public, beating on co workers , getting contracts bought out.

No one talks about this but it's an important part of development and is very much a part of a new culture we are trying to establish under Craig and Co

It's our alumni as well that continues to impress me as well. Lanny being involved still amazes me ....welcoming these kids from the draft floor and staying in touch. Great ex Captain material

Nice to hear Ray Edwards say that both Brzustewicz and Honzek will both be turning pro and on the Wranglers next year and both could see games in the NHL next year

This roster should be in the bottom 10 all year and a proper sell off at the deadline should rocket the Flames firmly into the bottom 5.

I suspect they should still be a pretty entertaining team though, and look forward to watching all the youth play themselves into the league.

Wonder if Lipinski follows suit with Honzek. Further depleting the Vancouver Giants

Exciting to have Parekh, Brz, Mews and Poirier in the organization. Puck-moving defencemen are difficult to acquire and I think it follows more of Colorado’s model to have multiple offensively-skilled defencemen in the line up. Not saying all 3 of those guys will turn out to be as good as Makar or Toews but having so many in the prospect system is the best chance of having one or two of them work out.

My best guess at the opening night roster at this point:

Kuzmenko-Kadri-Sharangovich
Huberdeau-Zary-Mantha
Coleman-Backlund-Coronato
Pelletier-Posposil-Lomberg
Hunt

Weegar-Miromanov
Andersson-Bean
Bahl-Pachal
Soloviov

Vladar
Wolf

With injuries/trades during the season, I would expect to see Honzek and Brz get some NHL reps based on what Conroy said in his last interview.

I wouldn't rule out Morin just because he had a so-so D+1 year.

I would guess that Stromgren would get NHL games before Honzek this season.
