Suspect they could sign him to an ELC now, but because they were signing him to an ATO and delaying the ELC until next year - that is where they ran into the issue. I'm sure they'll figure something out and if not - life goes on.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Poor kid had a $95k bonus snatched from his hands. He'll probably be anxious to come to an agreement as well.

Close but it was going back to coach at Clarkson vs. staying with an NHL team.

No, it's the player's age on September 15 in the calendar year they signed their first contract.
If you look at Gaudreau: He signed in April 2014, four months before his 21st birthday, and his contract took effect for the 2013-14 season but it still went on the books as a 21 year-old signing.

I think it is a pretty simple mistake. Morton is 24 right now, will be 25 on July 28. Born a month and a bit to early to sign that ELC after 4 years of college.

Seems like it would be easy to just come up with a new two-way contract?

Wranglers on Twitter posted him at practice (unless they are calling someone else Sammy).
Contract got worked out?

Yeah I think this is correct, he's still with the Wranglers on an ATO.

That sucks. All from being a month too old.

6 years for a masters in HR. Woof. At least it got paid for by the school (hopefully.)
I have never heard of or watched this guy at all before. Has anyone here?
From a pure stat watching perspective, I find it incredibly difficult to believe this player will play in the NHL.

I'm sorry - this is inexcusable.
I know that most of us don't work in a place where perfection is expected, and that mistakes are going to happen time to time. This isn't in any way comparable to that.
This isn't some obscure 3rd paragraph traded conditional clause. This is the signing of a player to an NHL contract - the premier hockey league on the planet..
The lawyers and agents working on this make 6 figures plus. Basic mistakes like this mean you can't trust them with the big stuff. Because clearly they are outsourcing it to interns or are drunk, or some other stupid reason.
Heads need to roll here. It's not as bad as Feaster trying to give away O'Reilly and our first rounders, but its total negligence from a group of people who are supposed to be the best in the world at what they do. I'm surprised that some of you seem so forgiving about it. This is the sort of thing that competent successful organizations don't do.

It's a meaningless, easily correctable mistake. Frankly, the bigger mistake was announcing before the league confirmed. And maybe the league could have let the Flames fix it and announce the change later.

It doesn't matter what MY workplace is like! That's the whole point.
This is supposed to be a AAA, premier in the WORLD organization. Simple mistakes like this call into question their basic competency.
It brings to mind Motley Crue's contract rider when playing events that there be a bowl of M+M's with no brown ones placed in the green room.
If they went in and there were brown M+M's they had their own staff go out and re-check all the pyrotechnics. Because clearly, the event organizers weren't reading the specifications, and the band could be killed by an errant firework.
If they are f-ing this up, it raises the spectre of what are the bigger things they are making a mess of?
