Nobody is watching this match cause It’s 5 in the morning back home but this Popyrin kid is putting on a very entertaining match against Joker.

Yeah, I have to pick and choose the matches I really want to watch or else I pay for it dearly later. Novak wins the match in four sets. I'll check out the highlights later, but not surprised that Popyrin gave Djoker a tough match, the home crowd likely inspired a great performance.

Speaking of highlights, I'm not sure how many people are aware that the Australian Open TV youtube channel does put out some pretty good extended match highlights (usually 8 to 10 minutes in length). Below is the Novak Djokovic - Alexei Popyrin match:

Zverev is down two sets to one to Lukas Klein of Slovakia. Let's go Lukas!!
Edit: 4th set tie-break required and Zverev needs to win it to force a 5th set.
Edit 2: Darn, going to a 5th set.

Iga is in deep trouble to Danielle Collins down a break in set 3.
Edit: Great comeback by Iga from 4-1 down in set 3 to take set 3 6-4 and advance to round 3.

Y'all know I love Iga, but I also have a soft spot for Collins and I hope she takes the positives from today. I would love to see her win a major once in her career she deserves it.
I just found out Collins is retiring after this year so this loss really sucks for her.

Felix is into round 3 following a four set win over Hugo Grenier. Big upset overnight though as Arthur Cazaux knocks out Holger Rune in four sets.

On the ladies side, I didn't see Jessica Pegula losing to Clara Burel of France in straight sets.
Edit: Also, Anna Blinkova eliminated Elena Rybakina 6-4 4-6 7-6 (22-20). No, that is not a typo, the third set tie-break score was 22-20

Oh wow those are big upsets on the women's side. I gotta watch that tiebreak when I get home.

Medvedev and Ruusuvouri still going at 2:33am local time. Something needs to be done about this - it's not fair on the players.

it was because of the 22-20 tiebreaker
tennis is kind of neutralized these days, lots of long rallies

Perhaps not 22-20, but any match can go to either three or five sets, let's say at an hour each. So there's a decent chance if your first match starts at 7pm, the next one could be starting at 9pm, 10 or later, easily.

It's 10 after 3 in the morning in Melbourne and Meddy and Emil are about to start a 5th and deciding set.

This match has now gone to a fifth, and it's 3:10am. It probably won't pass it, but it'll approach the longest-ever finish here (Hewitt vs Baghdatis).

Either that, or strap in Kubrick-style.
