No, you've turned cause and effect backwards.

Good teams tend to have good players. But good players doesn't necessarily mean it's a good team.

Yeah good players may not make a good team

But I doubt there are good teams without good players

Carolina in 2006 maybe? No #1D, but they had Stall, Williams and Brind'Amour... you can argue they were star forwards, but not to the same degree other winners had.

The thing is, some of these players don't get recognised as "stars" until after they win. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The current Canucks are a lot like the Gaudreau /Tkachuk era Flames.
They have some high end talents that are showings signs of becoming the real deals. Whether they have the goods for the playoffs or to stay consistent, we will see.

Unfortunately they are in a better position than Calgary, as they have 3 (maybe 4) players you'd take before taking a single Flame if you were building a team.
