That was the most exciting Flames hockey I've seem since Game 7 vs Dallas. A 3-1 comeback wouldn't have happened with this team last year.
Love that the kids are getting points and to think this is without Pelletier, Coronato, and Wolf at the moment.

Well it's nice to see guys like Zary and Pospilsil come up from the AHL and cease the opportunity given to them. Even DeSimone is looking like he wants to stay in the NHL for more than a cup of coffee.

Leaning more towards Pospisil on that goal alone tonight.

It comes down which of these players do you want to curse the most?

Would resemble “hockey” more than the current bs.

The current bs is old enough to vote and drink. Don't think it's going away.

Didn't have a great game overall but his pass on the Coleman goal was elite.
If Huberdeau made that pass, someone would have made a thread about it.

If I was the coach I'd do shoot out practice at the end of every practice and you don't get to leave until you score. I do wonder how much teams, especially Calgary practice the shoot outs?

Can't focus on one play, need to assess the whole game. His xGF was in the 30% last night.

It was probably the worst game he has played positionally, but regardless of his age he's still an nhl rookie. There is a learning curve to go through and players like Tanev and Anderson have had equally horrible games in their zone at times this season. He has 4 points in seven games, makes simple tape to tape outlet passes and can skate better than I thought. He's like found money when you don't have to play Gilbert or Osterle.

I hate myself....always seizing the opportunity to look like the dumbest person on the board.

I thought Markstrom was horrendous in the shootout. I believe all the attempts were shots because he was so deep in his net by the time the shooter made their decision.
The Horvat one was particularly bad. He never really stops backing into his net. I'm not saying he stops it if he doesn't do that, but he's basically giving himself zero chance.

He was top of crease on both (further out than DeSmith was when he saved on Zary for example). Both shots that beat him were bar/post and in.

Yeah. I knew the Flames were unlikely to win that shootout going in. The Islanders, despite stumbling to start the season, have some elite shootout guys. Horvat is a guy who can handcuff goalies, because they know that he can score so many different ways. If you watch Horvat in the shootout, he leaves a bunch of open shots for himself. The poor shootout guys limit themselves to 1-2 shots, which lets the goalie position themselves to stop those shots.
There's not a whole lot a goalie can do when a sniper like Horvat is coming in with speed. If the goalie backs up too much, that leaves too much of the net open. If the goalie comes forward too much, it leaves them liable to be deeked around. The smart move is to stay forward and cut off some of the angles. Then you just hope for the best. In this case Horvat hit a perfectly aimed shot just below the cross bar.

It's unfair but nothing looks worse for a goalie than coming out to challenge and then getting deked and beaten with a cheeky flip into the net (Datsyuk).
