There are positives
It is game 2.
They made some absolutely horrible decisions and brutal turnovers that are very easy to discuss in video sessions, coachable, and avoidable
Crosby is a beast who schooled Mang and Mang couldn’t handle him after the turnover
Hanifin had a really rocks for brains kind of game. He may well be traded at some point

Just some big mistakes in this one. The Penguins’ second goal followed a Coleman turnover, their third goal followed Zadorov not getting his man after the faceoff, and their fourth goal followed a Hanifin turnover.

Exactly. Coachable and avoidable stuff, no indictment on the system and adjustments they are making

We haven't had a shot like that on the team since Cammalleri left.

Coronato was -4 but looking at the goals he was just a victim of circumstance tonight. Nearly every goal has and obvious guy at fault and it was never him.

Any chance Matthew Phillips doesn't get his first NHL goal against the Flames on Monday?

Didn’t see the whole game. Saw most of the 3rd and highlights.
Looks like horrible turnovers when everyone is leaving the dzone is starting to become a theme.

He has 3 points in 2 games, he has been noticeably better than last year.

Yeah but he’s being paid like a guy to take control of a game or make a difference.
I get it. Flames freaked out lost their top line and have the bag to this guy. I understand why it happened.
But he’s not the “guy”
I hope they can find a guy or two to make him work, but I’ve seen nothing to really give me hope that he isn’t anything more than a 80 pt flashy offensive winger who is overpaid.

In the first two games, our play has provided little to be positive about.
Coronato’s first goal (beautiful release), and Markstrom’s good form have been pretty much it.
There are few signs of someone providing us what we need to seal things in a tight game, and we’re going through phases where we just cough up everything and put ourselves under unnecessary pressure.
Without the stellar goalkeeping, we would’ve been on the wrong end of two bloodbaths by now.
Edit: only 137 posts (with one poster accounting for big chunk of em), after a loss. That is concerning.

- Giveaways
- Making simple plays to get the puck out of their zone
- Missed assignments
Thankfully those things should be pretty easy to fix. Just two games in, go get the next one. Great to see Markstrom play very well again.

This is my assessment as well.
The good: Markstrom, their ability to cause turnovers and pressure the other team's defense.
The okay: defensive zone structure and PK were better in limiting chances, but still some breakdowns. Creative plays in the offensive zone were better than last year, but still reverting to the Sutter training of "get it on net". Work in progress.
The ugly: zone breakouts and turnovers...oh my god, both teams were guilty of so many turnovers in the second. Pittsburgh cleaned it up, we didn't. That's the game story.
