I had season tickets in 2000-01, and paid full price for pre-season then, too.

I'm curious if this is the case for all NHL teams or just for the most part Canadian teams because the owners know the fans are fanatical/suckers?

In Calgary, preseason tickets have always been a part of full season packed.

You tend to play your regulars at home and evaluate on the road.

don't include with season tickets and charge relative to how valuable a pre-season game actually is and what fans would pay, let's say $40 a ticket with no season ticket base. Let's assume 6k fans would pay an average of $40 per ticket = $240k (and judging by the Dome, and free tickets, that's probably generous).
Pre season game are all about ****ing over season ticket holders no ifs ands or buts. And it works, and they can't discount regular tickets while screwing over season ticket holders so it won't change. The model isn't broken, it's just that the model doesn't help the fan, as is usually the case.

Ticket prices are based on supply and demand.
No one is getting screwed. Don’t like it, don’t buy.

While Exhibition games mean nothing, and Vancouver dressed no one, it was still great fun and a total embarrassment for the Canucks.
It will be interesting when the Flames play the Canucks in Vancouver. Do the Canucks have any pride?

Which is a silly way of doing it. Watching your prospects get their teeth kicked in is no way to go about evaluating anything.
I much preferred it when they played mostly rookies in the early exhibition games, home or away, and gradually moved towards the regular lineup as the preseason went on. This was the general practice until pretty recently, when they came up with all this split-squad nonsense.
However, just as you say, tonight's game was great fun. And it did at least show that Markstrom can be sharp even when not busy, and Coronato's shot is as good as advertised.

It's only game 1 of the preseason but Coronato brings that hope & excitement I'm looking for this season.
If him & Wolf pan out to special players, the future could be alright.

I believe there has been an Unholy transfusion of Blood from Stone to Hanifin because that goal....was a thing of beauty.
He just figured "f it, Imma hit this thing" and he just stepped into it and hammered it top shelf.

They’ll probably return serve if we’re dressing our young stars team.

This is what I thought going into yesterday:s game, as well. My takeaway was this:
When it comes to preseason, it is nearly impossible to read much of anything into the games. Veterans are pacing their way up to getting into game-shape, and getting their timing back; systems are usually works in progress; lines are juggled. As a rule, I have found that putting ANY stock in a veteran's preseason performance is a fool's errand (take a look at posters complaints about Toffoli all through last year's preseason.) Win or lose; look great or terrible; it means literally nothing. I like it when players play great, but if they don't there is no reason to panic. It's always good to see prospects shine in preseason, as this is the time when they are pushing for jobs. We certainly saw that last night in Coronato. I was also pleased to see Oesterle and Solovyov play well.
But, I do think that last night was a little different just because of how poorly things went in 2023. It was important that Huberdeau, Kadri and Markstrom put in such excellent performances, if only as a statement to everyone watching that they are better than what they showed last year. It was so good to see the powerplay moving the puck like it did, even if this was just at a game against AHL shlubs. I have been excited to see how this team looks on the ice, and last night did not disappoint.

1. Home teams play 60% NHL rosters. Road teams closer to 40%. All of them.
2. No Vladar, Wolf, Backlund, Coleman, Duehr, Pelletier, Mangiapane, Kylington, Zadorov or Weegar
That's not "near"

Plus, the best performances (they were all good) came from guys for home preseason matters: Coronato, Klapka, Oesterle. Zary and Jones had good games - important for them.
And it was nice to see Markstrom get fed some easier chances, then make some tough saves.

If that was 40% of the Canucks NHL roster they may not get 10 wins this year. lol

Couldn’t care less who the Canucks dressed. The game was thoroughly enjoyable for a change. This team and this city needed one of these.

Solovyov ammmiright? Never watched him before but seems to have mobility and strength for quick puck retrieval and first pass out. Not afraid of heavy stuff in corners either.
