The list of Calgary Flames coaches with a Jack Adams isn’t very long. We’ve had way worse coaches.
Jack Adams award has become a team award for the team that overachieved expectations more so than awarding the best coaches.
You look at the list below f winners and many of the top coaches aren’t listed or won it once versus a long list of meh coaches we wouldn’t want in Calgary.
Jon Cooper zero wins arguably the top coach in the league the last 5-10 years. Quenville won it once, zero times with Chicago. Another guy who would be in the running for top coach of the past 10 years.
Any coach that causes Torts to try to fight him in a hallway (on national tv) just by legal coaching decisions is at worst a half decent nhl bench boss.
He imploded a top rival's season and gave a dreadful team a spark that fed into the eventual 2 round comeback specialists in 2015.
No doubt was a #### in the locker room, but wasn't clueless either. He had some cajones, and a coach needs those.

That was by far one of the most entertaining games in Flames history. Absolutely hilarious.

The list of Calgary coaches who are on players no trade lists is very short. He’s the only one.
Being hated doesn’t mean you’re a bad coach. I know for a fact the Vegas players despised Cassidy this year. But they were willing to suck it up because they saw a path to victory.

- I’m pulling for Conroy and Iggy to lead us outta being the laughing stock
- being a flames fan sucks right now, seems like a grim future unless Coronato , Pelts, Honzek and Wolf become stars so here’s to believing
- Brad T was the worst thing to happen to this franchise in a long time and that’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. Johnny wanted to sign long term a year before he left Calgary and Brad low balled him so bad he left embarrassed and disrespected, Tkachuk wanted to sign long term and Brad gave him a bridge deal and we all know how that turned out. Those two events are main reasons we are where we are, you to think Lindy would still be humming and hawing resigning to continue being apart of one of best lines in the history of hockey?
- it’s already dark days but I can see it getting darker, rebuild is gunna be a painful one if we go that route
- Hubby and Kadri didn’t forget how to play hockey, they left a bitter taste in my mouth last season too but I hope our fans can get behind these two guys that will be here long term, we are stuck with them and they are stuck with us, let’s support our players and give them a fresh start this season.
- this place is toxic, let’s be better to each other and our players, let’s be more like Conroy and iggy
- it will be tough next 5 years of either being middle of pack team or rebuilding but I can’t wait till we are not this laughing stock of a team and to the fake fans that wont struggle with me, don’t let the door hit ya on way out

He was hated and not very good. He got lucky in Colorado and fluked a round one win in Calgary. Again, if he’s good he would have gotten another gig in the NHL.
The top players in Calgary got him removed. It wasn’t just Sarich or other role players.

I’m not arguing he was a great coach. But people saying he’s the worst coach Calgary has ever had is downright ridiculous. He did more with less than what he had on paper in Calgary. Roster was brutal.
I’ll give Hartley credit for understanding 3:3 overtime. He figured it out before much of the league seemed to and knew how to maximize the personnel he had in that forum.

Cassidy was run out of Boston because the players hated him. Then the Bruins fell on their faces in the playoffs, while Cassidy coached the Golden Knights to a Cup. I doubt he changed his approach all that much.
It’s attractive to imagine that the only way to get the best out of pro athletes is to be positive, nurturing, and beloved. But pro sports doesn’t work that way.

I was told by several players that the line brawl with Vancouver was something that really solidified their team identity.
I was also told that Hartley wasn't a very good tactical coach.
Both things can be true. Nobody's entirely great or entirely bad at coaching. There are a lot of skills you need to have to be great, and not everybody's great at every part of the job.

Just reading Wikipedia, in addition to his Stanley Cup and overachieving with a terrible Flames team, he's had a memorial cup final appearance, a Calder Cup, Championship in the Swiss league, led Latvia to an improbable win over Canada in the World Championships and a KHL championship. He seems to fluke out globally.
You don't have to like him but he's clearly a good hockey coach.
Also "the top players in Calgary got him removed" could be said about most Flames coaches over the years, including the last one.
