How on earth could a competent coach not even try that even once last season?? Rasmus was absolute garbage as our point man last season. Might have been one of the worst in Flames history.
Even Tanev would have been better on the point.
Weegar never even got a chance on the PP with the Panthers though.

He may not want to re-sign here is the other side of the story. It’s not like the Flames aren’t one of the league’s biggest tire fires at this point.

I would assume he wants to sign with the Canucks. He just built a sweet new house outside of Vancouver.
He'd be a great mentor to all their young players and the on ice protector of lil' Pete

Would be interesting after he had some not great things to say about them and their fans in 2011

Don't forget that Weegar was handling the puck as if it was a grenade with the pin pulled for most of the season.
Wasn't until 2023 that he was playing better.

Still you had to give him a shot AFTER he turned it around.
He did a 180 with me. I hated him at the start of the season and by the end he was my 2nd favourite Flame after Big Z.

Looch has spoken quite candidly about how much he dislikes the fans in that city after they harassed his family during the 2011 run. I guess he might sign there if it's the only offer but I also kind of see Looch as a guy who sticks to his guns.

I could see him signing with Seattle. He waived for expansion, and even though the odds were almost negligable that he'd be taken, it was a slight risk. He's as local as they come there.

Suspect Lucic will sign with anyone who offers him a contract if he really wants to play. More likely a PTO type guy at this point.

I think he'll get a one way contract. He still brings a value to the league, especially at a contract under the $1.2M threshold that can be completely buried in the AHL without a cap penalty.

Maybe a hot take, I'd be willing to bring Lucic back for 1 million. Especially if he recognizes he might not play every game under a new coach. If we start putting some young guys in the lineup, coronato, pelletier, phillips, it would be nice to have a guy like that as an off-ice mentor, and bodyguard in the odd game. Dube has brought him up numerous times as a guy that has really taught him how to be a pro..

Used correctly, he's an asset. He needs to not play every game for one thing, and platoon with a younger, faster guy as needed depending on opposition. If he comes in on this basis he can be a Mike Stone and contribute nicely.
At this point it's about what he is willing to do, and where he's willing to go at a relatively low salary. His attendance at the Worlds indicates he still likes to play and is up for a hockey trip if he likes the guys. He might be into a warmer family friendly location for a last go-round.

I can't see Seattle signing Lucic. They have a very strong bottom 6 and no need to cheap out. I don't think he'd be close to making their team.

Depends on whether they think they are ever manhandled. He'd be a 13th man.

Way to go Weegar (Lucic on the ice too). That goalie was terrible though. Made himself tiny and was moving out of the way of the shot.
I sure don't mind a player getting a ton of confidence at Worlds though. Look at Mangiapane after he did it.

Two plays that stood out for me in Canada's 5-1 win today.
Weegar's assist on Canada's 2nd goal: In the slot takes it back as if he was going to shoot. Everyone bit including Crouse who received Weegs pass and put it in an empty net but was chuckling after the play.
Lucic's fly by when Blais scores Canada's last goal which he assisted. No congrats nothing.
Back to the bench!

Didn't want to make a big deal/rub it in to a weaker opponent?
