The more I think about it the more I keep changing my targets.
With the six I think you need to target 2 to sign, 2 to trade, and 2 to risk.
I had Lindholm and Hanifin as the two to sign, but now I think I'd go with the older guys on shorter contracts if you can get it done.
Better short term if you get Toffoli and Tanev on three year deals and then trade Lindholm and Hanifin for a haul.
Avoids the 8 year contracts for the two, and keeps them more nimble heading into a likely decline.

I think Vladar has value at least 2nd. If not no need trade him. In my opinion Vladar is a good backup and he has potential to become starter. Last year's numbers are misleading.

NJD is STACKED at D and needs to work in Hughes and Nemec at some point.
I don't think they have any need for Hanifin.
Value wise though well done to put forth reasonable suggestions.

So we’re fielding an AHL team next year and Trading our top 3 centers?

This seems more reasonable. I’m thinking Duehr would be in over Zary or Phillips.

Bold prediction, but I am going to bet on Klapka making the 4th line out of camp next season. He was close to making the team this year and after a bit of a slow start, ended up putting up decent numbers in the AHL for a player of his type.

Comix, a lot of fun and the on ice product would be more entertaining than last year! If somehow newhook ends up here, I would take a big swing and sign him to a kotkaneimi contract under 5M instead of a bridge.

I actually think the training staff, led by Ryan van Asten, has done a fantastic job with strength and conditioning since he joined the organization about 9 years ago.
Prior to him joining the Flames, the Flames were habitually near the top of the league in games lost to to injury. Guys like Regehr and Moss were injured left and right. Since then, the Flames have probably had the fewest injuries in the league.
Van Asten "is responsible for coordinating the overall strength and conditioning, sport science, and performance nutrition programs for all of the players in the Flames organization."
It doesn't sound like he makes the calls of whether injured players should player. He's just in charge of strength, conditioning, and training.
He was with Sutter when they won the two cups in LA.
If there's one member of the training staff who should stick around, it's him. There's huge value in the Flames' general lack of injuries that they've had for many years now. Durability helps with cap efficiency.
The only downside is that the lack of injuries has also probably affected development, since younger players haven't had chances to play.

It was a starting point for the thread. Before any trades, that's what's in the cupboard. I'd love to retain Lindholm and have Kylinton return.

Team gets a huge infusion of 2023 Draft capital.
Columbus gets the defenceman they're after (reportedly)
Colorado gets an impact top-6 forward they can extend (that they need)
Buffalo (or whoever) pays some deep picks for Vladar
Carolina revisits their 2023 Trade Deadline (rumoured) interest in Backlund
Flames bring back good guy Sean Monahan.

I don’t think there is anyway those deals could happen but that is already a team that is much more fun to cheer for, has some hope going forward and really isn’t much worse off in terms of winning/losing next season than they are now.
I would like to see some more moves to get rid of veteran deadwood like Zadorov, Coleman, Mangiapane and some useful guys that would have value like Tofoli and Tanev but at least your plan gives us hope!

I just don't see any significant moves trade wise based on our situation and what Maloney said.
That could change with the GM putting his stamp on the team.
Biggest change will probably come from within and integrating young players into the lineup.
Only players I could see potentially being moved are the upcoming free agents.

My prediction for next year's lineup. Backlund, Tanev, and Vladar are traded away. Hanifin, Lindholm, and Toffoli all get extensions. Stecher and Phillips get signed.
Huberdeau/Lindholm/Toffoli
Mangiapane/Kadri/Coronato
Pelletier/Dube/Coleman
Phillips/Ruzicka/Duehr
Hanifin/Andersson
Zadorov/Weegar
Kylington/Stecher

That last category is pretty big though. What - 5 big minute guys?

Maybe this is the right place to ask as I keep seeing Ruzicka at 4th line C in ppls fantasy mock up. What does everyone think the deal is with this guy?
I think he's a terrible 4th line C, he played like absolute trash getting 4th line minutes. On the other hand he was leading the team in p/60 @ 5v5 for like a quarter of the season and it's not like he hasn't showed skill and talent in previous spurts. Rumours have been that he has motivation issues but I haven't seen any substantial sources other than, an old article I read once back when he was in the ahl. When he was putting up points he reminded me a bit of Sean Monahan, big guy who's not very physical and isn't very noticeable but has very good finesse in the attacking zone. I wonder if he was misused, injured or lacks effort.

I wonder if part of this is just that the Flames are less likely to rest an injured player than other teams. The Flames seem to have a suspicious pattern of few injuries in the season, followed by a variety of surgeries post-season.
