I don't think Marek and McLean are alike at all. Marek has a legitimate passion for hockey history that he likes to apply to his commentary on the game today. I don't have a problem with that.

Back when he was a regular, Kypreos really annoyed me. I had issues with his loud, arrogant, "know-it-all" persona at the time. But all of that has disappeared now and Kyper and Bourne is perhaps one of my favorite hockey podcasts. Not sure what happened, but his on-air personality has changed completely.

Has he? He seems to be the same person. I’ve never had a problem with Kypreos personally. He liked calling things out and that came across as brash but it was still fine.

I agree. They're very different. Marek seems to have a pulse on the media climate today, too.
Marek had a great line on a recent podcast: "tradition is peer pressure from dead people."

His hand gestures specifically. If he’s hosting Friedman on his podcast I have no problem but when he starts to talk history of nonsense nobody cares about like McLean, instantly I get the try hard thought, and I wonder if all he does is watch hockey and eat cheetos?

Haha. Yeah. McLean’s signature all over them. Kyle and him are the only two that do that.

There is nothing really to the guy. He regurgitates, doesn't know how to interview, and goes off on tid bit tangents. He is very B-list. Hopefully not him.

Pretty sure it was the only segment that was specifically sponsored at that time

That would be a Rogers sales problem. I suspect the US broadcasts on the OLN network were able to get sponsors for intermission, if Rogers couldn't get sponsors for other segments then that is a problem on their end.

Marek is too wordy and can't get info out quickly. The host should just keep the show moving.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
^ That could also be the result of filling time on the podcast(s).

Does blow my mind that Rogers has a bunch of national games a week and these past few years the only unique intermission they've done is hometown hockey which is traveling to some remote city/town and interviewing people that 95% of the audience doesn't care about.
The only other thing they do is put people on different sets and use AR graphics every once in a while.
Why not try the 'personality' team with guys who are cracking jokes or the serious analytical guy team with the stats nerds. Who knows - you may find someone with some charisma instead of random ex NHL guy who's got the personality of a tree who's on the show for god knows what reason.

He used to be on the insider segment with Friedman and he has the same issue. He's be talking about the AHL commissioners and just couldn't spit out the news without the poetry. Hasn't been on in the past year so either cost cutting or they saw the same thing I did.

I like Marek.
I see the MacLean comparables to some extent, but he'd be a good balance of a bit of that without going way overboard like Ron.
With guys like Bieksa balancing it out, he'd be a good host.
