Powerplay Quarterback
|
Looks rusty and out of shape, good depth fit for the Wranglers to start next season.

Andersson-Weegar
Zadorov-Kylington
Stecher-Poirier
Move Tanev and Hanifin out, somehow bring in a top 6 goal scorer which this team is lacking
|
Not to go full armchair GM, but if we could move out both Hanifin and Andersson, bring back Stecher, and bring in someone like Erik Brannstrom from the Senators, we:'d have an exciting blueline
Kylington - Tanev
Branstrom - Weegar
Zadorov - Stecher
I think that would be an outstandingly balanced top six.

Depends what this team is next year. Are they rebuilding or contending?
Rebuild woulda been nice this season, but I think if Backlund and Lindholm declare they are leaving, then the rebuild has already started.
Might be nice in time for the new rink, and maybe we get the NHL to help us out with a 1st OA or two.

All I can get

I would caution against projecting Kylington into the top four right out of the gate.
Especially given he's only had one full NHL season.
He could very well get in shape (I believe he does really well on those training camp tests), but I suspect it may take a while for his timing and such...

I do wonder if the news of Darryl's departure played any role?

There's always a trade or ill-advised free agent signing we can make to try and keep our heads above water. Anything - they will do literally anything to avoid a rebuild, it seems.

Not only top 4, top pairing.
If the Flames can get a 2nd for him, you take it.

I wondered that too, but there is video of him practicing and getting into shape on the ice from a few days ago. So I think he likely was coming back regardless of the coaching situation here. Unless the team and players already knew about this and were just waiting for the news to be made public.. but that would have leaked.

Maloney said that the convo with Kylington was last week, I doubt the decision was already made then
Kylington and Sutter also got along IIRC... he was the first coach who played him regularly and they both said that they see the game the same way

If not reporting to the team was because he didn't want to play under Sutter, there is no way they would have kept paying him the whole time. He would have been suspended for violating his contract.

Or traded him. I'm sure he would have had value last summer.

If someone has a choice between $100k per year and they know there are other factors such as "this team will take care of me through thick and thin" it would be nice to be one of the good ones, because we sure are not a desirable place to play when you have a tonne of money and opportunity to go most anywhere.
Edwards is a notorious and proven cheap bastard, I heard from multiple places that Gaudreau was the only player at the previous all-star game to not get a PJ to and from the game and it didn't set well. Yes that is petty but if you have two choices its pretty simple. I would and have taken less money for a better run place that treats employees better.
There could be a million things going on, a black kid growing up in the whitest place on earth in the whitest old school sport on earth, maybe there is some trauma there. Who knows. Maybe his sister has cancer and only has 6 months to live who knows.
Obviously it has to come to a head and it will. Hell, I am deeply curious what it is, but I certainly don't have any sort of right to know as some loser fan typing on a message board. Its between the employer and employee.

Why? The chances of getting another Kylington with a 2nd round pick is fairly low, and would take several years. He only costs $2.5M, why on earth would you trade him for a 2nd to try and grow another him?
Why do fans want to trade away ever player for magic beans?

I think there's a good chance he signs on for a discount after this year too. Hoping he comes back and has a good year
