Not sure why that cant just have robo calls for strikes and balls. They would still need a homeplate umpire so nobody is out of a job.
There would be details to iron would for how the strike/ball message is relayed, but then there would be no questioning the calls and more consistency.

Might completely change the game for catchers if they no longer have to "frame" pitches
That said I do think the Dodgers are the most likely landing spot for Ohtani.
It will be interesting to see if the Angels trade him or take the compensation for him getting signed. You'd think Ohtani for this year's playoffs would be worth at least a first+ to someone (and the compensation pick would be between round 1 and 2). But of course then the Angels lose him for the rest of the year as well...
I think the Angels are in Seattle in September...at which point Ohtani has probably been traded. Sucks, I wanted to try and see him play this year. Too poor to fly anywhere and can't get enough time off my minimum wage job to drive anywhere else.

Angels comp pick would be between 2 and 3 since they are a revenue sharing paying team. That doesn't seem worth much.
The Dodgers don't generally like handing out mega deals. I can see the Padres passing on re-signing Soto and going all in on Ohtani.
Did he redo his deal just after the Soto trade? I thought players had to opt out of their deal after the season and sign a new FA deal...vs renegotiate the opt out in season. For some reason I thought they had like the current outstanding hard currency value of all Argentine Peso's committed to Tatis, Soto, and Machado.
Maybe it was rumors of a 15 year 450 deal that I'm thinking of that never came to pass.

If the team that loses the player does not receive revenue sharing and did not exceed the luxury-tax salary threshold the previous season, its compensatory pick will come after Competitive Balance Round B. The value of the player's contract doesn't matter in this case.
The 10 teams in this category: Angels, Astros, Blue Jays, Braves, Cardinals, Cubs, Giants, Nationals, Rangers and White Sox.

Ah, interesting. Thanks! In that case trading him makes even more sense, as a pick at the end of round 2 isn't worth much at all, and Ohtani for a playoff run should be worth quite a bit.
If Ohtani is dealt at the deadline I think it’ll be the biggest deal ever prospect wise. I think it’s the right thing to do to build the Angels franchise up considering they have Trout. It’s great he finally caught on and is a crazy marketing draw but that franchise is so behind that dealing for a large collection of guys will probably help them. I do think they’ll keep him as he does help sell tickets immensely.
Really not a big fan of this but many others seem to enjoy it.
Adding some flair is one thing but this ball flip increases the chance for a potential screw up/error - why risk it

Meh, I thought I was about to witness something interesting. It's the equivalent of a double pump. No biggie.

Colorado Rockies pitcher Ryan Feltner has a skull fracture and concussion after getting hit by a line drive off the bat of the Philadelphia Phillies' Nick Castellanos.
Feltner was injured Saturday night and was likely to be discharged from Swedish Medical Center later Sunday. He will not need surgery.
"Overall, he's fine," Colorado manager Bud Black said before Sunday's game. "I think the feeling is that it could have been worse."
Feltner was put on the 15-day injured list. When asked whether the 26-year-old right-hander will be out for days, weeks or months, Black said "probably on the longer end of that."
I've decided I don't like the automatic intentional walk rule. I watched the Twins vs Angels on Sunday, and the twins intentionally walked Ohtani. I think they should have to throw all four pitches, because the pitcher and manager should need to feel the boos for the full minute. Intentional walks suck in general, but as a ticket buying fan it sort of felt like getting cheated out of watching Ohtani bat. The Twins starter pitched well but had thrown a lot of pitches by the time Ohtani came up in the fifth, so the decision was probably reasonable, but as a fan you want to see him play.
