Maybe he just was out of shape in 21-22 and clearly never was a fit with Sutter.
Kylington really taking off hurt him too as that really blocked his opportunities.

Sutter very much dislikes out of shape players I think. It may have takenb Val a little longer to develop his work ethic especially when it was about rehab and not playing. And he just has caught on now, plus the ice time has forced it.

All three ... Bennett, Tkachuk and Valimaki were taken where they were projected.
Bennett was given many chances with many coaches.
Valimaki was very hurt twice, and nuked his development.
Tkachuk chose to play in Florida.
Not sure there's any fire here ... just smoke.

Coaches, injuries, any other excuses?
I wont argue, everything is fine, we are a contender year after year and players dont leave here and thrive, players dont come here and suddenly become much worse, happy?

It sucks to be among the bottom 3rd of the league, especially when 4 of those teams have only been around for ~25 years, but it's not like we're some enigma. It's also worth noting that the other CAD teams are all within spitting distance of that criteria.

great company, guess its me complaining, i apologize for wanting my team to win, too much to ask for

Are you debating that he was actually injured? Are you suggesting there hasn't been any coaching changes?
We don't have to argue. I've never said everything is fine. I haven't suggested they've been a model franchise, that they've never made mistakes or that the team is a perennial contender.
Those are all just words you're putting at me to prove this homer case I guess.
All I said is losing Valimaki isn't something to lose sleep over. The rest is you arguing both sides.

I'll take "What are dumb tweets for $200 Alex".
Fox wasn't home-grown talent. He never was officially part of the organization.
Dumb tweet is dumb.

Don't know who that guy is but he goes on to claim this is a Marty St. Louis and Mark Savard level of mistake by the Flames.
After watching last night, I am not pining for Valimaki. If he is so great, why did he sign a contract extension for a 50% reduction in pay?

His penalty at the end definitely helped his team.
It didn’t work out for him here for numerous reasons. I’d way rather have Gilbert in the lineup than Valimaki.
It’s not the first time that a player has had to move to rekindle a career.

I think it's his injury history. On the Yotes he will get a major role on a "show it" contract, it's a good opportunity for him. I don't think he would've gotten anything better anywhere else at this point.
He did look really solid yesterday though, a lot different from what he did in Calgary in the preseason.

I don't think that Valimaki would be the guy who pushes the team in a new direction. Sucks to lose him for nothing sure, but not a franchise defining loss.

Talk about St. Louis level of blunder is obviously really far out there at this point. But Valimaki has missed so much time that it's hard to say what his ceiling is, he does have some great tools. I can easily see him developing into a top 4 guy if he can stay healthy.

I think it was a poor decision to chose a 26 year old college free agent signing over a player that the team invested a 1st round pick for and is a couple of years younger. Mackey has been beyond mediocre so picking him over Jusso was a mistake.

I'm glad Valimaki has found himself a team but the reality is that the coach here didn't like him and wasn't going to play him.

Not missing out on much if that is what Valimaki is offering. I was so high on him his rookie year but he still does not look like a solid defenseman. The skills are there but he still sucks at reads and positioning. Two poor decisions not counting the late penalty lead to goals. He had an absolutely brutal pinch on one play that eventually lead to a goal.
His hockey sense and awareness still suck. He's young and it could still come but he's not moving the needle on this Flames team.

The reality is he wasn’t good enough to play in the top 4, and now he’s on a team that has plenty of space for him there.
