I think we have a few games of tonight's lineup before any changes are made. Lindholm is playing better than he was to start. Huberdeau gets a chance to see if he can gel with him. Dube, Kadri and Mangiapane gelled well at the start of the year and they'll get a few games to get that chemistry going.
I think Darryl has plans for his lineup and has played with the lines to get everyone going. He likely had a few options to try out before calling up Phillips. If Phillips is still doing well in a week but the Flames are still struggling to score then maybe we'll see him.
He didn't earn the spot out of camp though, so there was something that coaching/management didn't like from him. I am not now nor have I ever been convinced that Phillips will be an NHL player. But I want to see if he can prove me wrong, and for that matter the coaches and management too.
Just a point of order on the whole "Sutter" thing regarding Martin St. Louis...
As I remember it, GM Al Coates was high on the player as was working to re-sign him before he got replaced by Craig Button. Button decided to let St. Louis walk.
There's your true villain...

He also passed through two expansion drafts and multiple times on waivers...it's not like anyone else saw a star in him
After seeing last nights game, I finally like the top two lines. I also see no downside in putting Ruzicka as the 4C (with powerplay duty), and making a third line of Coleman-Backlund-Phillips.
Every line was going to the goal in the offensive zone last night except for the fourth line. Ruzicka would fix that in the first shift.

Only one way to find out, and it's not by leaving him down there forever. The Flames' pro scouting department has more than shown over the years that it's not infallible by a long shot.
He looks great so far this year and I feel like the Flames are taking notice despite not giving him the promotion to the big squad. Being in the same building helps!
I still think we'd like need an injury to one of the RWs though for there to be room for him at all. Then the others bump up and we stick Phillips with Ruzicka/Backlund or something.

We've had injuries where they could shuffle him in for some games and haven't.

This season, 9 forwards have played every game. The only injuries to the forwards were Huberdeau (3 games) and Ritchie (2 games). Neither was out of action for the 1 week required for a player to be placed on IR.
The other wrinkle is that both of those injuries occurred while Stone was already out, and they chose to recall 2 defencemen when Stone went down, which meant they had no extra roster space. They could have only recalled someone if one of the injured players was put on IR, and neither injury was severe enough for that.

Since we're throwing our line ups/ lines, need some fresh air and life into the line up, Don't know what other option there is to get Mangiapane going?
Ritchie, Rooney, Lucic all useless at this point, enjoy the popcorn.
Ritchie has not been useless. Rooney has. Lucic is getting there.
If the Flames aren’t going to give Phillips a shot this season he’s going to be gone in free agency I would assume. They should at least try and get something for him.

He actually made him walk. Craig bought him out. One of the reasons why he’s never had another GM. Buying out a hall of famer before he starts his hall of fame trajectory isn’t a bad look, it’s a moronically horrible look.

I remember watching him on the third line here, playing with scrubs. Every time he had the puck, I was like holy cow this guy is gooood.
...and then he was gone. Replaced by yet another big-body-but-can't-skate-pass-or-shoot western Canadian kid.
