Thompson was a first round draft pick. Ruzicka was a fourth round draft pick. Not a great comparable for odds to break out.

Draft position does not matter if the breakout is 5 seasons after the draft, plenty of late bloomers who were outside of first round

I am not saying that Ruzicka has odds if breaking out like Thompson, just putting into perspective of how unexpected this Thompson breakout was. It would be similar if Ruzicka suddenly was on pace for 65 goals

Thompson had 38 goals in 78 games last year. If Ruzicka were to put up 30+ by the end of this season you might be able to make that comparison but right now he’s only on pace for under 15 so if by some miracle he ended up scoring 65 next year it would have to be a considered a much bigger breakout than the one Thompson is having this season.
