That is the missing part of this trade. Something has to come back or its a three way trade.
Habs have zero cap space.

Just a thought. Monahan and Pelletier for Guhle.
Montreal would get the better prospect and they swap a Quebecer for a Albertan.

If this is a first it will really sour the whole signing for me.

If it's a pick, and given that the question about Monahan is injury, there should be conditions.

But that doesn't make any sense. If he was having injury problems could be placed on LTIR without having to give away an asset. I think there is something bigger here.

It could actually be that he ends up "healthy" for a sizeable chunk of the season but ineffective (what we saw last year) which is worse than him being on IR.

IF that's the deal, I feel like we're being held over a barrel to deal one year's worth of cap. At a glance, sure that's good value, but it's an unnecessary price to pay IMO due to the desperation of our situation.

Don't forget its 7 years of Kadri until age 39 so not all roses.
I still thinking something is coming back from Habs. They have zero cap space.

Sean will never be an impact player again. This is such an amazing offload. Holy cow.

Would you rather have Monahan sitting on the books, eating cap hit, and wasting a year of our window?

I think the Flames saw the writing on the wall and said "no thanks" for the continued saga of Monahan's trajectory. Too much risk of injury, but Montreal may be able to utilize him and have their trainers work with him for a specific role.
Just my opinion.

Word is teams want a 1st from the Flyers to take on one more year of JVR at $7 mil. And JVR has been a much more productive player than Monahan the last two seasons (41 goals vs 18). Cap space is at a premium this off-season.

I have a feeling this is also going to be a shocker of some kind. Something significant coming back.

Rather give up a first than Pelletier. Flames will need cheap contracts to fill the team and he is looking close to ready.

Well yes I pieced that together. But it was two separate deals and Lucic had a lot of smoke so it’s unsurprising that people will be initially rattled by the loss of a 1st and Monahan.

I’m going to guess we had to include Florida’s 1st to move Monahan.
