If you want this team to tank then you have to get rid of Sutter. It's not in his DNA to "tank".

I'd also keep Markstrom but only play him 40-50 games to maximize what you can get from him and Vladar at next year's draft.

The crazy thing is that the Flames only have three players signed past 2023/24:

Coleman
Andersson
Markstrom

You can add Mangiapane if he signs an extension, but that is the potential for a huge roster turnover in a short period of time.

I'm sure that - if so inclined - the org can have a frank conversation with Sutter about the direction of the team and intention on building for the future. I doubt he would be interested in trying to squeeze blood from a cap minimum roster.

I sure hope that the organization isn't weighing the future of the franchise against what a coach with 1 year left on his contract wants - though of course this is the Flames we're talking about.

Totally. That's exactly what I'm saying. Now is the worst time to find a market. With a bit of patience that will change.

Sutter has never been able to mold a team from the ground up. Maybe he'd like to start from there and get all young players to teach how to play "the right way".

NHL teams should shut the hell up about loyalty.

Giordano signed a team friendly legacy contract in Calgary and they let him go to Seattle.

If Gaudreau signed a big contract with Calgary and then gained a skittle gut and wasn't really living up to the contract, fans would be lobbying for the team to dump him by any means necessary.

And they wouldn't be wrong.

Sutter had to know that this was the most likely scenario for this season when he agreed to coach the team. I wonder how much say he's getting on who we try to target? Either that or he knows this is his last season and he can just ride it out or quit.

He is bad for a tank though if they get futures for Tkachuk. Will see what the Tkachuk trade looks. If Taransenko is the main piece coming back I am going to be sad lol

Suggesting Wolf should be in the NHL this year is just about the dumbest idea going. He needs to play, not be a backup. And he needs to continue to develop his game and hone his skills.

That is literally what the AHL is for.

Nobody can be that dumb.

The oilers the the perfect example of falling ass backwards into luck and somehow finding a way to continue to screw things up.

The flames just have been unfortunate in some of their picks.

The flames hand was forced into not protecting Gio with the expansion draft and cap structure at the time, with kylington up and coming ANY team would have done the same thing and Gio even understood it, plus there was tons of dialogue and attempts made to keep him in the lead up to the expansion draft. That’s not the same thing as what Johnny or Panarin or Bobs did. Lol nice ‘if’ on Gaudreau too, ‘if’ Mcdavid ever leaves the same way I’ll check back in on how you’re doing; garbage post at this point in time but wouldn’t put it past an oil fan to quick a fan base when it’s down this bad… literally going to be the first team to lose two 100 point players from the previous year and the first to lose one to UFA in the history of the league. No I wouldn’t even wish that on the friggin Oil, but now you’re tempting me; Piss off kindly.

Loyalty should apparently be a one way street. Much like a player should be loyal to whoever drafted him, a player who is drafted but not signed should just be thankful they were drafted. Much like how we gassed Neal after one bad season, despite the loyalty he showed 12 months earlier by signing, it is a one way street. No credible person thinks this loyalty argument is worth anything, because far too often one can find examples the other way (justified examples). The justification cuts both ways.

What they should be doing is building a new goddamn arena. At least eliminate one obstacle for attracting and keeping talent. Absolutely idiotic

I hope Sutter sticks around for a long time. I think he will be moved to GM once Bradferd has made his last phone call. Only time will tell.

If the goal is tank and tank hard GM Sutter is the best decision they could make

Of course they’d never draft anyone in the second round again…

I think fans have a short memory of Sutter as GM, namely the Kotalik/Jokinen fiasco paired with the Phanuef trade.

Sutter in my opinion was a great GM. Id wager the last 2 weeks of Brad is 5x worse then anything Sutter ever did.

Sutter was a horrible GM. He drove the car over the cliff and left the system in a condition it took years to recover from. He'll never reach that seat again, and for good reason.
