It is the third time in Colorado, it is a Rocky Mountain high for the Stanley Cup!

Yeah took him many years and a few teams to shake the Edmonton stink off of him before he could be crowned a champion.

What a monster team. Dangerous, competent, fast. No fluke.

Honestly, no team in the West stood a chance against either of these two. The Avs in particular have a dynasty in the making with a generational forward and defenseman who aren't going anywhere soon. It's going to take a stroke of luck for any other team in the West to get by them for a while.

That's part of the take-home message here, unfortunately.

All it'll take is the salary cap doing its thing to drag the Avs back to earth. Having MacKinnon, Byram, Kuemper, Lekhonen, Kadri, Nichuskin, Compher, Burakovsky, and more up for renewal over the next two off-seasons is going to take a lot of work by Sakic. They'll still be good, there's no question, but the cap always gets its pound of flesh and hollowing out the middle of a roster should be enough to downgrade them from "unbeatable dynasty" to "one of many good teams".

One call I really appreciate last night was from the linesman in the last 2 minutes. Twice there was a very close icing done by Colorado and the first time the lightning defender dogged it the last ~20'. Ref gave a favorable call to Tampa. The 2nd time it happened, Hedman was doing his best McDavid backcheck impression and the icing got waved off. Great call by the linesman.

They are going to lose a couple of guys but at the same time, I think some UFA's may take a bit of a haircut to sign there if they want to chase a cup. Winning the cup also makes the team a desirable location for players to either sign or get traded to.

I said it a couple of pages back.

So I'm cool with it.

So yes, I completely agree. Hedman was banking on getting a stoppage and being able to move the puck up the ice for the faceoff rather than having to play against the clock and the linesman brilliantly 'noped' him.

Stupid play by Hedman there. It was obvious that he was giving no effort there to go after the puck. I am surprised he didn't pull out a curling broom. Good call by the linesman, and just dumb for Hedman. He had enough time to get the puck and maintain possession, but instead he waited until the last second and then had to scramble with less time to make a play.
