Hope I'm wrong.

Lots of doom and gloom in this thread, as per usual around here after a loss. I get it. Past Flames teams have let us down and this franchise has not been very successful over the years. But those were vastly different teams with different rosters, coaches, and systems.

Before last night they had won 5 straight, are 6-3-1 in their last 10, and have been one of the best and most consistent teams in the league all season. Yes, they've gotten lazy over these last two games and they've gotten away from their game a bit, but I'm fully confident that they'll use a stinker like last night as a learning experience and that Sutter and this coaching staff will have them prepared for the playoffs. There are also multiple players on this team who know what it takes to win a championship, which I think will come in handy once the post season arrives.

It's not just the loss. It's the way they've been playing lately. They spent a huge portion of this season steam rolling teams with Sutter hockey. And whenever they got off track just a little they'd snap right back into dominant form.

They've been out of sync for a while now, luckily they've been able to still string the wins together against draft lottery fodder like Seattle, Arizona, Anaheim etc..

They need to get their mojo back soon because the playoffs are almost here.

Dallas and Nashville lost to Seattle recently...but the Flames can't beat them in round one because they barely beat Seattle and lost a game to Vegas.

CP logic

First round is always tough, last night's game is irrelevant though

The Flames have a 7 point division lead with a game in hand...tell that to your September self if you are feeling down

Tough to get up for games when you’re on cruise control to lock up top spot in the division. You’re actually worried about the last few games? You really think Sutter isn’t going to have them ready for game one? Unfinished business

They play a few good playoff teams down the stretch. Minnesota, Nashville, Dallas. Probably the teams they would play in the first round or two. That’s where we’ll see where they’re at.

IMO Sutter should pick the line configs he wants vs those teams and stick with them. There’s been a lot of line churn the last few weeks due to injuries, resting guys, looking for more scoring ect. But I think there should be some consistency heading into round one.

They cant play any of those teams in the second round. 1st round for sure though.

Great post. Makes you wonder how some people handle thier ordinary daily lives when things don't go as expected..
Do they complain to mom and dad, or to thier wife/husband that they are getting worried about the future when some things do go as expected?

Lots of good reasons to be optimistic especially seeing how hard and consistent the Flames have played this season. Too bad some won't show them a little faith instead of trying to link them to the past. Be happy, enjoy the game. and stop living in the past!

Every team goes through dips, every team. We've seen it across the league.

Ask yourself this ... would you rather the Flames go on one of their 8 game in streaks into the playoffs and think they're all that, or sputter a bit and have Sutter completely own the narrative for game one?

I know what I'd choose.

It would nice to see the Flames in top form for a couple games before the playoffs.

I can certainly understand the dread that the team may choke, or do something very Flames-like, in getting our hopes up and collapse.

But I think this team is different, and you have to look at the recent dip, and realize it coincides with really, the first time they've faced injury adversity all season. Rest Markstrom a bit, get refocused and healthy, I'm hopeful all is well.

They had won 5 straight before the last game . Not sure where the sputtering is

Flames have beat lots of the elite teams in a similar manner throughout the year

Sometimes a game gets away from you

Flames did not look like themselves during that five game win streak and not even close to a top playoff team. It’s concerning.

I think Bingo's point is along the lines that they don't get overconfident maybe thinking they don't have to work as hard. Sutter keeps the team humble and a good loss is a good reminder when certain players miss assignments. Could be during the Vegas game the Flames got caught thinking about individual play, personal scrums and points instead of taking care of business. Would you want to go into game 1 of the playoffs confident and get beat, or go in thinking. "we better take care of business"?

No one is saying run the table here. But an appearance by the February Flames in a few games down the stretch would be of tremendous benefit in my opinion.

Injuries have been a factor lately however, as has the schedule, as noted by others above.
