Of course he would do poorly, that's not the fact.
How did Lindholm and Johnny do with Monny the last year? How have they done since Monny got moved off that line? When posters were down on Johnny, we didn't realize that Monny was the actual problem. Johnny looks like a different player since the move.
The eye test clearly tells us that Monny is a black hole of offence.

That’s right. I honestly haven’t liked his game since the last half of the 18-19 season. I started thinking about trading him after the Mackinnon ownage in the playoffs. I know comparisons between Monahan’s goals totals vs MacKinnon’s goal totals always arise, but truthfully, the 2 players weren’t even in the same stratosphere.
It is very sad that the organization has waited this long to trade him. His value a few years probably could‘ve netted the Flames an absolute King’s ransom. Now he’s skating in practice as a 13th forward and he may even need to be bought out. Talk about selling low.

I hope this is message-sending to Monahan and that Lucic is scratched instead. Either could sit in my mind, but Lucic isn’t quick enough mentally of late to even handle the puck. It’s like a grenade at his feet.
I’d like to see what Monahan can do on left wing and If the threat of a scratch can make him play when more/some/any urgency!

There’s always been this notion floating around though. I know for myself, even from year 1, I’ve always thought that the Monny-Johnny duo was very one sided as it felt like Gaudreau seemingly did all the work for the 2.
With the way this season has unfolded, the truth has obviously come to light. I’m just glad that we even have a shot at re-signing Gaudreau now. I figured with how under appreciated he’s been around here that he’d bolt as quick as he could in free agency. But now I think, there’s no where else but the Flames to sign. So I’m pretty optimistic these days about him coming back.

Does Monahan even possess the skill set to play wing? It may end up just as bad as the Backlund left wing experiment. I’m not sure Monahan plays a quick enough or heavy enough game for the wing position. He’s sort of stuck in the middle where he’s big, but plays soft. Slow, but not Lucic slow. Milan makes up for his skating by playing intimidating, physical, heavy style hockey. But, that’s not Monahan at all.
It’s too bad because I think that’s all Monahan has left. If he just re-invented his offensive game like he’s been trying to re-invent himself away from the puck, then he might have a shot at being a scorer again. If he’s willing to push and shove down low, why not push and shove in front of the net? Fight for space, become a net front presence. Screen, tip pucks, score the greasy goals. He’s still got good touch around the net as he’s shown on the powerplay and Darryl‘s system plays perfectly for that style of player.
Afterall, the team loves possession and spamming point shots, so it really just comes down to will, is he willing to stand in front of the net or does he want to continue playing a perimeter game that doesn’t work for him anymore?

Taking a while to get to 5000

Playing wing doesn't change how poor his skating has become or how bad his shot has become. It takes some defensive responsibility away but he's still the same player, just on the wing.
So, no. Not a great option.

Based on today's morning skate, it looks like Lewis is in and Monahan and Carpenter will be the scratches.

So a 4th line of Lucic - Lewis - Ritchie

I wonder if they are resetting the lines and putting Dube at centre on the 4th line with Lewis playing with Backlund and Coleman again.

Sutter's golden boy Lewis stays in. Shocking.

Seeing this, ... and from hearing Ryan Huska talk about Lewis yesterday, maybe I'm too hard on the guy.
I see turnovers, but I'll watch for positioning tonight.

Lewis is the only guy I’ve seen Sutter go out of his way to praise. “He knows how to win” was one quote.

Monahan’s skating is better than it has been for years. His shot is not good, and I don’t know that it can ever recover.

Lewis is a weird one.
I can see why coaches like him, and he does seem to at least try to do the right things on the ice.
But all results point to him really bringing down any line he plays with.

I assume Lewis stays in because they like his PK ability. Until Carpenter gets up to speed on that, Lewis will probably stay in.

How much of his shot is mental, though? He was a streaky scorer to begin with and his play lately shows he's got zero confidence. Even when he's in a good spot for a shot, he often passes.

Well, if that’s it, he’s on the wrong line because the guys he passes to can’t score either. It’s probably a bundle of things. His shot isn’t as good physically, so he lacks confidence in it (maybe rightly so).

I'd say 0%. His lack of a shot is 100% physical IMO.
I think his lack of confidence in his shot is based on the fact that his shot is shot.
