Vegas is the only team that can knock off the Oilers from that third spot in the division. So even if they get away with it again it's not too bad.

Non-playoff teams can make moves after the deadline, can they not? Or is it only after their own regular season is complete? I'm curious as to whether Vegas will be forced to move Dadonov to Anaheim but receive nothing in return, to remain compliant.

I think Vegas trying to point the finger at the Sens organization for not telling them about his NTC list of 10 teams is hilarious. You're a professionally run NHL organization. It just looks bush league on you trying to pass the blame. Why would it be on the Sens to ensure you check with YOUR player that he's got you up to speed on his NTC?

Vegas team website no longer shows the players name on the roster.
Was this trade ultimately approved last night?

The trade call went through and the trade was approved by the NHL. Both teams announced the trade as official. According to Dreger the trade was processed as if Dadonov did not have a NTC.
What appears to have happened was that after Dadonov was informed of the trade, he told the Knights and the NHL that the Ducks were on the no trade list he registered with Ottawa before he was traded to Vegas.
Which is now the mess the Knights find themselves in

Dadonov's hockey card should be a NFT. Nobody will know for sure which team he belongs to.

Doesn't a player lose his NMC/NTC if he gets traded? Or the new team gets to choose whether it wants to respect the clause or not, at least that's what I remember happening in the past.

Only if the player waived his NTC to be traded. In this case, he was traded to Vegas who wasn’t on his list.

The 2020 MOU changed that. The NTC/NMC always transfers now when a player gets traded.
Point 58 of the 2020 MOU
Quote:
CBA §11.8 amended to provide that No-Trade and No-Move
clauses shall always travel with the Player in the event of an
Assignment (by Trade or Waivers) of the SPC.

The punishment should be quite severe. They've created a completely untenable position for Dadonov. I'd say a $1.5M fine ($500k directly to Dadonov ) and a 1st round pick.

Vegas is slowly becoming a despicable franchise.

Using LTIR isn't quite as simple as people seem to think. I've tried to dig into it but it's mindbottling. There's a bunch of stuff with calculating ACSL and relief pools before you get into the 'extra cap space'. It's hard to 'exploit' until you're already fully into the LTIR.
Lastly, you're only going to have guys with long-term contracts (Stamkos/Kucherov/Stone) willing to 'play the game'...who are typically your best players. And it's hard to expect dropping them into game 1 of the playoffs to work as well as it did with Kucherov.
If I were a GM looking to game the system, I'd be looking at TDL time as a return date for my superstar (who needs a non-urgent surgery). Get them to wait until at least July 1 - if I can land a big fish then I'd get them to wait even longer to go under the knife. Around TDL unload a big ticket pending UFA to get a bunch of assets and then replace them with a cheaper rental.

Really hoping Vegas has to eat this. So tired of that team gaming the system and going after every shiny new toy that comes on the market.
Would really enjoy seeing them struggle at some point like every other team has to in the NHL. They have had it far too easy.

They should allow Dadonov to waive to go to Anaheim but force Vegas to retain 100% of the salary along with all the obligations coming their way from Anaheim.

Agree totally but I hope they win enough games down the stretch to push Edmonton out of the playoffs, then I hope LA beats them in 6 or 7 in a bruising grinding series while Calgary takes 4 or 5 and gets to rest up and wait.

But he doesn’t want to waive. Not for Anaheim anyway.

True, but how is it going to feel to play for a team when you know that you are in the way of them executing their "plan"

Any one of us can go look up the fact he has a NTC on capfriendly. Imagine managing a group of people who are working on a report, and when your boss requests it on the due date you say “oh my staff never gave it to me”. “Did you ask for it when it was clearly missing?”….”uhhh no, they should have just given it to me”.
Hilarious. Looks good on them.

Vegas and Eichel missing the playoffs and Edmonton getting manhandled in round one is a dream end to this season.

Even if Vegas gets no supplemental discipline, I think they are pretty ####ed just by the trade being voided.
