Yes on a floatplane trip to Quebec, tragic.

Edit-The plane was missing for 11 years. The song "Fifty Mission Cap" by the Hip is about Barilko's death, the song remains a staple of the Leaf's warm-up playlist.

That seems likely. The other logical choices would be 15 or 50 and they're both taken. He wore #7 in Owen Sound, but it's also retired. Maybe 57 or 75 could be an option too.

My money would be on 55 though.

IDK, maybe they did...I highly doubt they would pay anywhere near that cost. I'm also pretty certain Brad already knew that the media just loves their stories. Especially one where the Leafs win the big "sweepstakes"

Flames can say they couldn't so the media will leave them alone about why they did or didn't get him back. I bet if we had a poll the vast majority of CP wouldn't want Gio back.

Hope Leaf fans aren't too hard on him when they realize they aren't getting Norris Gio.

I think Brad just likes to kick tires just to raise the price so someone else can pay more.

Freidman speculated that the Leafs were interested in Chara, but I imagine this takes them out of that now.

The NHL didn’t want this to happen again, lol.

In the midst of an injury-filled season with the Avalanche, Calgary re-acquired McAmmond from Colorado on March 11, 2003 for a fifth-round selection in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. McAmmond, however, couldn't play a game for the Flames for the rest of the season since the deal violated a rule at the time prohibiting teams from trading a player prior to the waiver draft and reacquiring them later in the year.[1]

You don’t have to look any further than this Calgary team to find Lucic and Lewis!

Only thing better would have been a trade, and got picks. but that never would have happened. Flames would have waited too long, probably even extending him 3 more years.

Expansion forced the Flames to do the right thing.

It worked for Gio too, just like Iggy who still lives in Boston. Gio gets to go home and play in playoffs I am sure he is jacked.

Iggy lives in Kelowna, coaching minor league hockey

If we were trading with Seattle for Gio, there wouldn't be any need to retain salary... just take some salary back in the form of Monahan or Lucic, plus assets.

Yeah, I know. "In a plane" is the lyric. I thought we were doing a bit.

good for Gio. Happy that he is getting to go home to Toronto. Hopefully, they'll have a big playoff run (for his sake)

Second time they got one of our defensive pairings a little past its prime. I liked Macoun and Nattress too.

Macoun did have 7 productive seasons after he was traded, probably closer to his prime than Gio. But thanks for reminding me of that trade.

Good for Gio, I hope he and the Leafs do well. A Flames-Leafs final would be absolutely glorious.

True, my apologies for mentioning that fiasco.

Not sure what makes Gio a great leader anyway...the teams he led never won anything and were incredibly inconsistent.
So, what improves in Seattle had they not named a captain?

The fact that one expansion team named a captain while the other did not has absolutely nothing to do with the stark difference in their on-ice fortunes.
