How is it possible that the Flames have played 22/35 games on the road, and will still play five of their next seven away from Calgary? By the time the Olympic break hits, the Flames will have played 27 road games, and only 15 on home ice.
Just ridiculous.

How the Flames need to perform in their games-in-hand to match the total wins of the teams ahead of them:
Vegas: Win 5 of 5
Kings: Win 2 of 5
Ducks: Win 1 of 6
Sharks: Win 3 of 5
By the time the Flames catch up to all these teams in games-played, I expect we'll have caught all of them in wins except Vegas, and we could even catch Vegas. We have the best goal differential in the division and that's always been one of the best predictors of success. Despite an extended slump we remain one of the two best teams in the Pacific.

I'm confident that Monahan would already have 15 goals if he was Huberdeau's centre.

Yeah I couldn't believe the next BOA game was in Edmonton again, not Calgary.
How many games are the Oilers going to play at home in the same amount of time?? Jesus.

I purposely didn't watch the game live, since the last few they have lost.
I just finished watching now and it was a really good game. All the lines contributed and it was good to see Monahan pot a couple. Hopefully that gets his confidence going.
Also good to see Markstrom have a strong game. Keep it rollin'.

Why are we counting total wins? The Flames need:
· 3/5 wins to catch VGK
· 2/5 to pass LA
· 2/6 to pass Anaheim
· 1/5 to catch SJ
The Standings are determined by points, not wins.

Actual standings don't matter, because reasons. Something something loser points, something something Oilers.

Mangiapane-Backlund should never be split. They’re outstanding together. There’s a natural chemistry that works based on the way they both play.

There won't be an Olympic Break this year, but it was supposed to start on Feb 3. So the Oilers will play 3 home and 4 away in that time frame (between tomorrow and the 3rd).
Curious about their current split, I did some looking. Not completely sure I got it right, but the Oilers schedule so far looks like this (not counting exhibition or postponed games)
Oct: 4h, 3a
Nov: 5h, 8a
Dec: 8h, 7a
Jan: 4h, 6a
Feb: 0h, 1a
Total this season so far: 21h, 25a
Jan postponements skewed the numbers, as they had 4h games and 1a game postponed (so far).

If this is accurate, looking at the other teams' early-March schedules, it will probably be the make-up date for the Oilers game. I'd guess on March 7.
The Flames are in Colorado on the 5th and at home against Washington on the 8th. The Oilers are in the middle of a long home stand then, and off on the 6th, 7th, and 8th.

Huh? Of course I did.
Don't forget, I'm a Flames fan first.
The Panthers have been on a long enough hot streak that they were due for a loss, and they also can handle the blow to their point totals as a result of that streak.
It will also make them extra ornery when playing Edmonton, which I'm super happy about.
Not sure what narrative you're trying to build here, but I have the ability to have two thoughts in my head at the same time. I can enjoy either a Panthers win or a Flames win. The Flames needed this one more, so I'm glad it turned out the way it did.
I have to give the Flames extra points for limiting the shot totals and taking away time and space from the Panthers. That's not an easy task at all, but it was key to the win.

You think Huberdeau could do what Johnny can't? I don't. Monahan is a powerplay specialist now.

Monahan has barely played with Gaudreau at 5v5 all year. Lindholm is Johnny's C.
Mony has been playing with Lewis and Richardson. How's he going to do anything down there?

Huberdeau does a few things JG doesn’t. He’s 200+ pounds for one thing, so he plays a bigger game, which could benefit Monahan. A fair number of Bennett’s goals look like the one he scored, which didn’t involve Huberdeau, but still reflects a net crashing game, which Huberdeau can play as well.
And Monahan’s second goal, which came even strength, was on a nice play Gaudreau started. I think Monahan’s had a few games just like this one, but just wasn’t rewarded with points. So yeah, he’d have a bunch more playing with Gaudreau and (therefore) Huberdeau.
Bennett calls Huberdeau the best playmaker he’s even seen, FWIW.

That game was just what the doctor ordered. Flames struggling for a while so beating the best team in the league handedly like that was sweet sweet medicine. Especially on home ice.
Kudos to Sutter for having the team ready to play from the drop of the puck and sustaining it all game. Years prior after a long break, the team limps out in pathetic fashion. Hoping for an angry Cats team against the Oilers and a Flames beatdown after!

Would love to see Monahan start to roll, that would be such a huge boost to this team. Not getting excited about that yet though, let's see what happens.

I started watching this game with some trepidation, based on the teams recent play.
They were fantastic, pretty much the entire game. Flames looked fast, hard to play against, and smart. Great d zone coverage, forwards coming back to help close the gap, Marky was good but not spectacular, but he didn't really need to be often as his team did a great job in front of him. Nice finish on the goals too, and with a couple bounces, could have had a few more (Kyllington could have had a couple himself). Gudbranson was a beast on the PK.
Overall, just a really enjoyable game. Great job Flames.
Like most others, I hope this really annoyed the Panthers, and they come out with their best and most angry game of the season - and Gudas does to Mavi and PissyPants what he did to Ritchie. Then I hope the Flames play this exact same game against the NoGoods on Saturday.
