TBH, I feel like we'd want the go-pro mounted on the bear, but that might be hard to arrange.

I think you're treading on some pretty dicey legal territory carrying a spear around with you.
1) It's illegal to hunt with a spear, if you're walking around with one (especially in a national park) I don't think it would be unreasonable for a CO to assume you are carrying it with the intent to hunt with it, which would be illegal due to timing, and the fact that it's a spear
2) It's legal to carry knives in Canada as tools, but if you're carrying one with the express purpose of self defense then it is by definition a weapon which is illegal (maybe you could talk your way out of it saying it's for bears, but I'm pretty sure it's not legal to carry something potentially lethal in case of a bear attack, that would be a pretty big loophole for poachers).
I'd say if you're in a provincial or national park, you'd almost certainly be in trouble if you ran into a cop/peace officer/conservation officer.
Outside of a park, I'd say it's still a coin flip on whether or not you'd get into trouble for it.
You're an adult, so do what you want, but I'd say you're walking through a legal minefield carrying that thing around with you.

I forgot what this spear looks like. Does it give Medieval Times vibes?

Still hard to figure out if it's legal, but I'm going to chance it. Have some big hikes coming up. Also just heard there was an aggressive bear in Canmore over the weekend. No way I'm walking around without a weapon.

As far as legality goes, should be fine. It's always intent.
If you're in the middle of nowhere, and someone of consequence asked yoy what it's for, and it's for animal defense, you'll be fine.
This doesn't speak to if it's actually worthwhile, that doesn't matter.
You're fine with a katana. Claymore. Doesn't matter.

Okay there are two possibilities here: 1) You are planning to fight a bear with a spear, and; 2) you are planning to hamstring your companions so the bear will eat them while you escape.
If 1) can you at least post your str. dex. and con. rolls first, so so we.get a better idea if your chances? You might want to warm up on a goblin first, btw.
running around the mountains with a spear! indeed!

What hikes are you planning
Bring bear spray in addition to your spear.

My face is a bum!

If I was worried about dying I'd wear a helmet on my drive to the trailhead before I'd carry that spear.
The bear with a spear sticking out of it's ass is going to maul you extra hard lol.

Lol, the bear will be using the spear as a toothpick to pick sliver chunks out of it's teeth.
At least your kids and/or wife will most likely get away.

Just double fist cans of spray if you’re that concerned. That would be more effective than that stupid stick.

I have bear spray. I also clear the trails before we set off with a bear banger (pretty cheap insurance as it's only a couple bucks per banger and I usually just use one or two). Yes it has a blade cover. Hikes are planned for in the Jasper area.

I've already mentioned the potential issues with a spear especially in a national park.
As for the bear bangers, apart from the fact that randomly firing off bear bangers is a bit of a dick move, they are most definitely illegal in National Parks.
Seriously dude, you are really over complicating things and opening yourself up to a lot of potential legal issues.
Bear safety isn't that hard:
Practice good bear awareness
Keep your camp sites clean
Carry bear spray
That's it. Do those things and you'll be fine, and you won't have to have any awkward conversations with the police.

I missed that this was in a national park.
Yeah, I'd probably forget about packing a giant spear in there.
