I expected a really rusty Flames team last night, and got exactly that. I'm reading next to nothing into last night except a win. Which frankly in years past the Flames would have found a way to lose.

Lucic would be the 5th highest scoring forward on the Oilers right now.

Sure your shot counts go up but Calgary struggles to score wonder why? Gotta drive to the net / centre of the ice. Sutter has them doing that more this year but I sure wouldn’t hang my hat on shots for the Flames as a stat to bank on at all.

This just isn't true though.
The Flames are 8th in expected goals for in all situations, and have home plate ranks of 4th for scoring chances and 12th for high danger.
I think they definitely drive up the shot volume, but they're also taking dangerous shots at a higher clip than most of the league.
There high danger (home plate on rebounds, tips, and direct passes) could be higher, but at 12th overall in goals / game they're not exactly struggling.
Last night the Flames had 11 high danger chances to Seattle's 8 and won the game as expected.

When Lucic hit Soucy on the forecheck, separating him from the puck and gaining a chance on net, I turned to my brother and said "That's something that James Neal wouldn't do in a million years."

I’m really appreciating Johnny’s game to a higher degree than I have before.
He is a top talent in this league, and damn do I want an extension to get announced. He’s the heart of this team.

After they tied it up late, I was thought to myself that after 21 days of no hockey I would have been okay with the single point. Glad that the team has more drive to succeed.
At the end of the day huge 2 points. I know the game in hands makes it a little deceiving looking at the standings (4 points back of 1st, but 3 points up on 9th), so it is definitely time to go on a streak so they can stay above without using those games in hand.

Don't agree with the 'Flames were lucky' take...
Seattle was extremely opportunistic to get 4 goals from the chances they had - give them credit, they capitalized. But play that game 10 times and SEA scores 4 no more than once or twice.
Flames were rusty for sure, with lots of bobbled passes and cough ups, but they were still full marks for the W, and the score flattered the Kraken significantly.

I know he had 3 points (mostly because he was on the ice with Gaudreau), but I didn't like Tkachuk's game last night. As the season goes on, he seems to be reverting to that player we saw last year: standing still too much, making selfish plays, and throwing up too many blind, high-risk, lazy passes.
On the other hand, Johnny is just killing it.

There have been those among us asking for Johnny at RW since he played RW at that tournament a few years back and lit it the F up. The kid is excellent on his off wing, almost a cheat code. I think coaches are afraid to put him there because his size makes you automatically think puck protection would be a problem off wing, but his elusiveness is enough to make up for it. He's so good.
Johnny's next contract... that is going to be the richest flames contract in history.

Plus I think he uses a 65 flex stick or maybe even less. I have one too and its not great for clappers but man the puck pops on little wrist shots.

Could easily have been a lopsided score for the Flames. They carried the play for most of this game and Seattle scored on their very few opportunities in the 3rd.
