At some point there will be an injury, and Valimaki will have to rise to the occasion and prove he should be a regular in a healthy lineup with extended playing time.
At the end of the day it's Kylington who took Valimaki's roster spot based on performance. I don't think a platoon of Zadorov and Valimaki was the base plan in August.

He is #6 on the Flames who are the best defensive team in the league, plays way higher on a bad team. Remember there are 32 teams now. He is also 26 which is still pretty young.
There is no way he is out of the league anytime soon unless he chooses to be. KHL could give him a massive deal though, he is a top russian dman.

I never said that about Hanifin at all. I even said he's been our 2nd best defenceman defensively. I said if we do lose him we'd be fine and would gain a lot of assets if we traded him. Not the same comparable at all. One is a great defenceman and Zadorov isn't. But at Hanifin's low salary I do think trading him in the off season would get us a haul and a good way to gain assets while still remaining a good team.
And the highest paid player in the KHL I believe makes $1.5 million so not sure how a defenceman like Zadorov will get a massive deal.

Going to back to Flyers game, Zadorov's giveaway eith like 30 seconds left to go in a tie game gave me a proverbial heart attack. Now contrast that with Valimaki, who gave us a 1-0 lead right at the beginning of the Bruins game that they were able to build on with his well-placed point shot. It's almost as if offensive contributions from defensemen are ignored when analyzing their value by some.
I thought Valimaki played relatively poorly last game overall, I'd give him a C. But the core of it is, he didn't play so poorly that he deserves to sit for what will likely be the rest of the month. That's where one gets annoyed.
I don't think our overall record can be used to handwave all player usage. We won the west with James Neal in the lineup in 2019... when teams play well there is a lot of leaway in the regular season. But it ultimately bit us in the ass.

It's almost as if actual data doesn't matter when developing opinions by some:
Valimaki: 3-13-16, 81 games, .198 PPG
Zadorov: 25-62-87, 424 games, .205 PPG
But apparently, we're sacrificing offense by playing Zadorov

on the books...and I meant more than NHL min. not more than he makes now
there are a ton of way worse dmen though, Zadorov will be in the league for years IMO
And yes you did say the Flames could trade Hanifin and replace him easily which is obviously not true

There's definitely some unique obsessions. There's Zadorov and then there's also Bertuzzied who constantly brings up Giordano any chance he gets or even if it's completely unrelated.

Just a note about the Chicago TV feed broadcast. The familiar voices of Pat Foley and Eddie Olzyck have not been doing the games on this road trip. Foley has announced that he will retire at the end of this season, and has cut back his schedule. The Blackhawks have been trying out new PBP guys, and new analysts. Tonight it will be a couple of plain vanilla, and unremarkable guys on the call, Stephen Nelson doing PBP and career minor league D-Man Colby Cohen on analysis.

You can tell they are taking the opponents lightly...
Also, Johnny is already thinking of the off-season by wearing a golf company hat.

I don't even hate Zadorov that much and he has been improving.. But i would rather Invest in Valimaki who could be with us long term as opposed to Zadorov leaving at the end of the year..

Nothing has made me happier in the last 5 years than the ability to just cut through hyperbolic internet chatter based on some silly eye test that never amounts to more than just a need to be right, or a heavy bias for or against a player.
So don't get on me for bringing in simple stats that match my or others eye test against foolishness like "worst defenseman in hockey" and "I'll trust 3 other teams thank you"
Glad to have the ease of weaponry to put crap like that to bed.
