A 3rd rounder, seems like a fair deal! If things don’t work out I think he can fetch more at the trade deadline.

Yeah I was wondering about Macdermid as well until he went to Colorado who I suspect realized that they missed that big mean Dman after they traded him.

The acquisition cost won't be the issue.
The cap space will hurt.

He is actually fantastic off the rush, his skating is really good for a guy his size. When he was with Colorado he would be one of the defenders that was able to shutdown a guy like McDavid with his size and skating. The problem is that he easily gets lost when trying to defend a cycle.
The upside to him is that he can absolutely turn a game around with a huge hit, he is one of the biggest hitters in the league and almost every hit is clean. The downside is that refs hate him, he will get plenty of calls against him simply because he is bigger than someone. One of the most consistent things you'll probably notice is that opposing players tend to know he's on the ice and they are more likely to dump it in on his side to avoid getting smoked. His outlet passes are...not good, it's like he doesn't realize he is a gigantic human being and he just rips passes that people can't handle.
|
First of all, thanks for the writeup!
To the bold, if he is good defending the rush, and can handle McDavid in that regard, then this is a brilliant pickup by Treliving. I loved Gio, but the Flames have been absolutely defenseless against McDavid on the rush for the last few years. Hopefully Andersson never has to face it again.

So, the Kraken took an AHL player from the Hawks and could have gotten a 3rd round pick?
