Good stuff. Time for a new era with this team.

Why didn't the Flames just trade Gio to NYR then? I'm assuming Seattle is keeping a lot of the salary?

Should have changed our upper management prior though and brought in a new team with a new vision, our own expansion team so to speak.
At this point I'm just going to sit back and continue watching this train wreck.

Starting to think Seattle picked Gio because of a few teams having interest in acquiring him. Have to think Pittsburgh, Montreal, and maybe another team needing a LHD would’ve wanted to acquire Gio from Seattle.

Pittsburgh makes a lot of sense because of Brian Burke being there now, didn't think of that.
There must be a lot going on around the league with deals and this expansion. I'm sure the Penguins want to make another cup run as well. That would be pretty awesome for Gio.

a loss for the community for sure.
in my opion as a player, gio was a shell of what he once was. it was kind of sad watching him, as it also meant i was older as well.
great story for him to make it to the NHL; however, the Flames seem internally dysfunctional and seemingly need new a leadership core.
hopefully he will get a good shot at a cup before his career is over.

It’s weird to lose a player of this echelon in this way.
But I think it’ll be good for the Flames in the long run and good for Gio, he may have a chance at a cup which he wouldn’t have had here.

Ok, no surprise.
Please, PLEASE use the cap space wisely now.

I remember this terrible feeling after Iggy got traded. We all saw it coming a mile away. But doesn't make it any less painful. Perhaps a necessary evil to shift the tides of the franchise, like the Iggy trade did.
Thanks for the memories Gio. Like a fine wine, you got better as you got older. Not a single person can say you didn't live up to your contract the entire tenure you were here.
I hope Gio is able to do what Iggy couldn't and finally get to lift a cup before he retires. Going to cheer for whatever team he plays for.

Sports isn’t fun anymore. AAV, cap space, asset management.
We just lost a tremendous and giving individual, a pillar of the Calgary community and one of the best to ever wear the Flaming C.
Gio was a stellar captain, teacher and leader.
I’m not the least bit conflicted. I’m very sad.

Won't be shocked if Giordano returns to the Flames for a season or two after 21-22.

If only he could sign players like Chris Tanev and Jacob Markstrom.

Could be worse, could be re-signing Smith to a multi year deal.
