He does know a thing or two about winning. If there was ever a concern.

Under no circumstances should interested teams be looking to add a player as a favor, let alone trying to shoehorn a player at the end of his career with a huge contract and dropped production into a handful of teams with their own budget issues.
If any team is interested, they should be asking Chicago to retain at least half of that salary, if not most of it. Maybe Seattle wants that kind of contract under their belt. I doubt even Edmonton would be that interested in Keith at this point.

A team that’s cap space rich but doesn’t want to pay much (like Seattle) could take him since his high AAV contract is actually not expensive in real dollars.

Every year Duncan Keith outperforms his shot differential and xG stats by more than anyone else on the Blackhawks d core. It’s not a 1 year or small sample thing. When he’s on the ice the hawks consistently are above water in 5v5 goals despite otherwise being a pretty terrible 5v5 team.
There is something about their system and style that is allowing him to be more effective than it appears. I think they get hemmed in their DZ more often, and he can still skate well enough and make effective long range passes to get the puck up the ice to contribute opportunities, jump into plays effectively, etc.
If you watch him he can still skate quite well, just not near his prime. He has marginal hands and shooting skills, but is high iq in reads, and decision making. He can still retrieve the puck decent. He’s just not going to win a ton of net front or board battles, and would be at his best on a team that can let him focus on transition play.... and pair him with a defensive battler (nurse?)... find the next seabrook that complements him.
I believe if used in a different system he will surprise many by being quite effective. He’s an insane athlete that trains very hard. He’d easily improve Edmonton’s d core, and believe sometimes you need to look further than shot differentials. There are exceptions out there, based on context of systems, styles, teammates, coach asks, that can make differentials mistelling in some situations. They are a great tool and can be very effective as a guide, but this is not a player that is “done”. He’s a legit contributor still in the right role as a second or ideally third pairing defender. He would be a complete mismatch for opposition in a 3rd pairing role.

And there is the rub: in Edmonton there are not four or five defensemen ahead of Keith on the depth chart. If he ends up there it will be playing on the top pairing, or as the anchor on the second pair, and that is not great.

Oilers media have a unique talent for making the annual offseason dumpster diving sound like big game hunting.

I know they’re the Oilers, but I can’t understand why they’re dumpster diving like they don’t already have two MVP centres.
There’s virtually no chance any of the Oilers’ next three first round picks will be competent enough to play big minutes in the playoffs in the next 3-5 years - they should be trading everything they have for professionals who can work with their MVP centres.
By the time any Oiler draft pick of the next three years is ready, McDavid will be a Bruin or Shark or Ranger, and Draisaitl will be a Panther.

Man, Edmonton media is all over this today. Sure feels like he's going there. Tons of smoke.

According to Rick Dhaliwal, Calgary is not on Keith's list of teams.

It's fine if Keith doesn't come here. He'd have to have his cap hit retained to the fullest it could be to make it work. And he's not worth the assets to do that. Even if the Flames weren't on his list. But they are so... good.

I mean, I guess it's good news? But it does add more fuel to the fire that NHL players do not want to play for the Flames and that's a big problem in the grander scheme.
