Sure, but hooking on a breakaway is pretty easy to call, as is trying to push a player over the blue line to cause an offside. Or any of the 4 cross checks Weber threw on Mangiapane on one shift.

Flames controlled that period, and the only penalty the refs were willing to call against Montreal was when they had 7 players on the ice and one of them had the puck.

Tkachuk would be an incredible player if he was about 30% faster.

If they play like that in just one more of the next two periods, will it be the first full 40-minute effort of the season?

MTL played late last night. Should be getting noticeably tired by now.

If I were the Flames I’d have him on a serious power skating program this summer. It’s something he could definitely fix.

Simple to win . Move your feet . Be first to pucks and forwards have to have to have to back check way more.

When our forwards backcheck the D csn get them the puck and activate themselves way more hence.....more opportunities for goals.

I actually want to see Kylington out there for sure but Mackey wayyyy more.

He's a mean SOB. This team needs one D that's mean.

Good period, they were much harder on the forecheck, rather than standing around reacting, they actually forced the play. Ritchie on the first line aids a nice dynamic. He hustles and forechecks, and lets people know he will be physical.

I’d like him shooting weighted pucks too. Could use some more zip on the shot.

Montreal should be tired. Zero excuses for the Flames to not come out blazing this next period.

We can only hope that trend continues. With 7 games left against the Habs we have control over our fate.

I liked Ritchie out there as well. Big hit behind the net to set the tone early. Maybe he'll channel his inner Ferland and help Johnny and Mony out a bit.

Skating constantly so even when they turn it over they usually retrieve it back.

Flames fans would have liked to us score more goals during that period, but I think Sutter is very content with a low-scoring, mistake-free 1st period versus a run-and-gun goal-scoring fest with mistakes on both sides.
