What? No.

Most of those pointing to the 19 games are rightly pointing out that there is no way—barring something egregious—that Geoff Ward will be replaced mid-season. He is 19-games into his current two-year contract. That is all.

Ok, he went 24-15-3 after Peters last season.

In total it's still less than a full season of being the head cheese. I stand by my point that I really don't see ownership or BT paying for yet another coach to not coach the team. Not for this season, anyways.

People love to equate winning/losing with outcoaching/being outcoached.

I think it’s fair to judge Ward on some interim HC stuff, but not others. But if you judge his interim role you also have to take into account Peters’ record in that year up to that point (which wasn’t good).

Habs and Oilers are both rather mediocre teams that are fooling themselves into thinking they are much more than that.

This division overall is not great, making it a fertile breeding ground for false delusions.

The Habs had a run early, Oilers are having their run now. But we know what they are.

Julien is a good coach though, probably better than the alternatives that are out their now. Not part of the problem.

I don't think this helps them, outside of a very short term boost of motivation.

Allowing twitter to peer pressure you into knee jerk midseason organizational decisions does seem very Habs though.

Burrows as assistant? I hope Lucic skates by the bench and offers him a finger to snack on.

Hiring a coach because they don't have to quarantine is the stupidest reason to hire a coach - ever.

Second stupidest.

The stupidest reason to hire a coach—ever—was every time that Edmonton went back to the alumni-well "Because, Oilers!"

I don't mind Julien as a coach. I do not think the idea of firing Ward and replacing him with Julien, simply because he is available, is a good idea at all.

However, what about the idea of re-uniting Julien and Ward? Bring Julien in to run the bench, and have Ward go back to being his assistant?

I think I could get behind that.

This is something I also think I could get behind, and I suspect it is the only possible scenario in which a mid-season coaching change takes place.

I am pretty sceptical that ownership would green-light any changes, though. The team is already bleeding revenue because of COVID—I think there is a huge incentive there to maintain the status quo until the fans return, and honestly, it is difficult to blame them for this.

I could too. But I don't know if Brad Treliving could.

I want to see Ward fired and any experienced coach put in his place. However, there are many valid reasons to not do this.

I’ve decided to be fine either way.

The problem with a knee jerk hiring of Julien because he’s available is that he’s gonna want a multi-year deal to counter the options this summer, and he’s used to making $5M. It better be the right decision.

You know who is a francophone coach and is currently not employed by an NHL team?

Bob coached Roy. They both are a little wingy. Roy’s return to Montreal would be a huge thing.
