What was the brewery at that location before Wurst? I remember the story was they didn't give notice to renew their lease fast enough and got turfed so that the landlords could up the rent.

1. I wasn't out at bars or clubs in that era so I had no idea so I thought it would be cool to do the virtual drive-by
2. I wish that the google car was around prior to that as there are a ton of stores and restaurants that are gone that I can't remember anymore and I wish there were just photos of everything. - For instance, I can't remember what restaurants or stores were at the Penny Lane Mall prior to it being demoed for building 8th avenue place. I recall being inside as a child a long time ago.

Escoba was in there, in the basement if I remember correctly.
Also the original Ceili's, the roof top patio was excellent.
There was also a bagel place as well that did Montreal Style Bagels.

There was also an old school tobacconist that might even have had a smoking room.

I recall Dim Sum in the basement of Penny Lane. That Cantina was awesome. As was the Embassy roof.

Wild Wood was great. I lived within stumbling distance of it back then and it was one of m favorites. Great beer, really good food and a really good atmosphere.
Many a good time there.

I think this was the place that I bought my first ever Cuban cigar. It was fantastic.

There was an Italian tailor/suit place in Penny Lane. I managed to get my parents to buy me a nice suit there for my grad. From what I remember they paid quite a bit for it but it was a beautiful suit. I actually still have it in my closet 20 years later but there is no way I could fit into that now.

Current closure question: does anyone know if the Esso on crowchild around Kensington is closed permanently or just re-doing the tanks?
I almost put this in the GMG thread.

Not sure - I think the long term plan is to widen Crowchild.
