The Oilers would probably do well to get Babcock. I know he's a prick and some of the stuff he did was garbage but now that he's been called out he maybe quits with the antics.
He definitely holds players accountable. He plays favourites like all coaches but he rewards hard work at least. The Oiler coaching staff gives the stars too much leeway.

Took a look at the standings in the Canadian division this morning. As bad as it feels to lose 3 in a row, the Flames aren’t in bad shape.
My guess is it will be Toronto and Montreal at the top, with the next two spots up for grabs.
Flames season series against Oil, Jets, and Nucks will be very important. Win more than you lose against those guys and you should make the playoffs.

Here's the thing about the new schedule: yes, every game feels like a crucial four-point swing, but on top of that each team is also playing at least NINE games against each of their opponents. Ordinarily, dropping the first two games in a season series would be fatal, but in this case there are still seven or eight games left to play. It is silly to throw the proverbial towel in against Toronto and Montreal when there are still 14 or 15 points still on the table there.
There are going to be a lot of wild swings within the Canadian Division.

I agree. And for the record, I would not be throwing the towel in yet. It was more of just a general observation in reply to the “burn it down” mentality after the latest loss.
Top spot is not out of reach by any means, Toronto and Montreal look pretty decent though.
First, let’s play our way into a playoff spot and go from there.

Toronto and Montreal will eventually have to play a lot of games against each other which will either plateau both or one of them. That said this early start definitely puts them in the driver's seat as teams like the Flames, Canucks, and Oilers have to run off some consecutive wins against them to make up any sort of ground.

How in anyway was my comment trolling?
On the flip side I really liked the dark blue ones and bought a RNH one but not a huge fan of them on tv.

Unpopular opinion among flames fans (since Edmonton is no good) but I actually like them.

you're wrong. the other oiler jersey is the ugliest one.
the dark blue one with orange piping/lettering. just horrible.
for the standings. Probably not going to matter much in the Canadian division as I think the teams will play all their games.
but you'd have to think that for American teams winning % is more important than anything, as there will probably be quite a few teams that don't play all 56 games. games in hand won't mean very much.

Flames being bad off the rush shouldn't be surprising. Those stats are great.
When your D is always making an extra pass breaking out to another D, it's going to give time and space for the opposing team to set up.
To make it worse, the D in the offensive zone seems to only activate when they're down a couple goals. (Not) oddly enough, that's when it becomes a game.
This looks like an updated version of Gulutzan hockey where you don't utilize a major strength of the team: speed.
Win or lose, it's infuriating and boring to watch. At least for the first period or more of each game.
This is probably how the team feels:

Can't really rank the teams until everyone has played Ottawa an equal number of times.

It makes me sad that McDavid hasn't spent his career playing for a better organization. With Crosby, I loved watching him play and cheered for his success. I appreciated being able to watch a generational talent over his career. I enjoyed watching him in the Olympics and could fully cheer for him. I was excited when Iggy got traded to the Pens for a chance in the playoffs and to see them both on the same team. It would be nice to be able to cheer for McDavid. His skills are unreal, but he is tainted by playing for a garbage organization with a culture that makes them impossible to like and that stains the players too. I can watch that goal and recognize that it was a beauty, but I can't feel excited for him and the idea of cheering for him just grosses me out. I don't know what it will be like in the Beijing Olympics when we have to watch him in a Canada jersey.
