So, bounced in on goal from outside the blueline = a shot. But, a flurry in quick succession from inside home-plate do not = shots?
How does this work?

I thought the fourth line had a good period.

I just caught the last 7 minutes, but the Flames were looking pretty good (not including the uniforms, which I can't help but associate with failure to meet expectations). The passing was looking good again. Some nice possession and movement in the Leafs' zone.

Unfortunate bounce but not bad with CGY layoff. Get skating and play fast. Get control and zone time and shots. Win battles and get to rebounds.

It annoys me too. A shot from the neutral zone is counted for the Leafs but Tkachuk with a clapper from 20' out isn't. I have always felt the counter in the Dome likes to pump up opposing shots and downplay Flames shots. No idea why.

Need more people going to the net. This passing on the boards won't win you games.
They are getting their legs back, hopefully a better 2nd period.

Still lots of time left, but man do I hate afternoon games. It seems like they are usually guaranteed to disappoint.

That looked like a promising rush in the last minute by Mangiapane in the last minute, bit then the missed pass to Tkachuk flubbed the entry. Hopefully the whole team's timing will be a little bit sharper as the game goes on.

Not a bad period.
Feels like the Flames (and Leafs) are not really driving the intensity so far. Whichever team comes out in the 2nd and pushes the pace will likely get rewarded.
...it would be nice if we stopped putting the puck in on our own goalie. Goes to show the Flames are not getting the bounces right now though.

That looked like cautious hockey from both teams.
Flames are fine. One goal off a Flame again. Odd trend.

The replay shows this time it wasn’t a bad time to try, there was daylight there. Campbell just got a piece of it with his shoulder

I figured maybe they thought a couple of those shots were going wide
But no, I just rewatched for curiosity sake, and there were 3 indisputable shots, 2 from Tkachuk and one from Backlund.
Awarded with one for some reason

I expected a rusty period from the Flames. All this talk of practice time is good to a point. But the leafs have twice the game action.
I'd like to see the Flames get some traffic in front.

Plus it was in a bit tighter and hit the net, and created further chances.
