Do we really have to stoop to this, just because we get defensive about something that's out of our control?

Not enough cap space.
Flames are done once they extend Mangiapane and fill a few roster spots.

Brodie played with a bum?
I am not saying he is better but people are acting like Brodie is Bobby Orr suddenly after cursing his name for the better part of how many years?
Tanev was one of Vancouvers better players in the playoffs...entire panel said so multiple times during the first two rounds

I'm sorry but I think this deal is awesome. I've liked Tanev for years and we sorely lack the attributes he brings. It's a little pricey but I'm actually comfortable with the term.

In no way is Tanev worse than Hamonic. This one is pretty lateral.

Not bad, declined as Vancouver declined so I expect a slight bounce back.. Decent contract, pretty good player, right shot. Check check check.
With Brodie gone, I'd say this is even or even slightly better in terms of replacement, taking into account him playing better defensively and being RHS etc. imo.
I'm good with the term, maybe 500k overpaid, but that's UFA. Exactly a the player you want in playoffs though.
Bit concerned about injuries but it is what it is. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Ridiculous.
People are going to learn how much Brodie actually brought to this team. It’s like people didn’t notice how much worse our d-core was when he was out this season
Part of our top pairing and one of the best d-pairings in the league the last 5 years.
I’d pay Brodie $2M more than Tanev. This is $1.5 - 2M too much IMO. Concern with Tanev is he just can’t stay in the lineup and guys like him rarely age well.

Well.. here's our Brouwer/Neal signing.
Jesus f*** Tre.
I try to support him as much as possible but his UFA history is as God awful as it gets.

People seemed to like the Hanifin/Andersson pairing and we need Gio to go guns a blazin' on the offense again, so my pairings are:
Giordano - Tanev
Hanifin - Andersson
Valimaki - XXXXX
XXXXX = best of Kylington, Yelesin, Mackey, Petrovic or any other UFA brought in.

Not a fan of this deal. I predict it will be bought out before it is over. 31 year old, hard as nails Dman. This is the contract I was worried the Flames would give to Hamonic and they basically did.
Fills a need but not excited about this one. Hope to be proved wrong

If Hall's interest is elsewhere / they cant move some money then i would also pursue Vatanen.

These contracts are such killers because you don't actually fill the hole in your lineup you just end up having to pay twice as much to fill it later.

What did you expect Tanev to go for that makes this a massive overpayment? Genuine question.

I like Tanev. That said this is an overpayment in term and $’s.

I dont get the issue over the price, the term is maybe a bit much because of his injury history and he may break down sooner than most
But watching tanev play, you're never gonna say, hes not giving 1000% percent, guy blocks shots when the team is up by 3 or 4 goals ffs
Also his skills are not ones that will age poorly, hes a good skater but he doesn't rely on speed, hes not offensive but it's not like he doesn't have puck sense, he rarely pinches but when he does it's always a good one
Most importantly his play in his own end is still elite, you basically have the guy who's playing RHD with a minute left when your holding a lead for the next few years and hes very good at it
