I think there are a couple of takeaways to me:
1) It’s a super fine line between winning and losing in the playoffs and momentum can swing quickly.
I look at Washington a couple years back coming back from 3-0 down, and even St.Louis last year who were I think a post away from losing to Dallas in round 2 game 7. Winning the Stanley Cup playoffs is the finest of lines at all times and most winning teams have at least one series that’s a close scare.
2) Being battled tested and experience does matter come playoff time
I look at the Flames last year and it happened to them. They had a pretty easy season and Colorado had to scratch and claw down the stretch, once it came to playoffs the Flames just couldn’t get out of first gear while the Avs where already in 5th.
This year it seems to be happening to Colorado. Dallas had a tough battle with the Flames, and they found that never quit attitude and some confidence. Colorado kind of had an easy qualification round, and then a cake walk against the Coyotes. But now that the competition stepped up a level they can’t find that extra gear.
