I just cannot see the Flames trading a defenseman unless they somehow fall far back of the playoff-cutoff line. I think Hamonic walks in the summer.

A Canucks pick well spent.
His trolling over the years has just been the icing on the cake. He is essentially Gio Jr, just does so many things well. And I feel like he's even been holding back offensively.

Late to the party but this is a great deal. Rasmus is in my top two or three favourite Flames this year. He’s shown a commitment to improvement and is already worth that salary IMO, let alone in 3 years or so.

Exactly what I was thinking. This is a very Predators-like signing. And that's definitely a good thing.

I don't even care what the numbers are, and they are very good.
Just glad that Ras will be a Flame for years to come. Love the guy. Wont score worth a damn, but he is an excellent D and a great team player.

How is Tre so good at RFA contracts and so bad at UFA contracts? Baffling.

Anderson was going to make decent coin regardless if he signed long term or not.

I don't know if I'd call this a steal. It's a good signing though.

If Valimaki is coming back in March I think they will move one of Brodie, Hamonic, or Kylington by the deadline.

I also believe they will add a low value expiring vet for depth if they move a roster d.

The fact that we got Andersson from the Baertschi pick makes this so much sweeter.

I believe Treliving will do everything he can to “replicate” the Zucker and Kadri near trades. Those trades show what he wants and what he is prepared to give up.
You’d have to break the Kadri trade in two for it to work now of course.
In play for the Flames are their picks and a defenseman. Unfortunately Jankowski has lost any meaningful value now.

Valimaki hasn't played in months. He has had a serious injury. I really doubt he will be back to normal immediately. If he struggles, and no one knows what will happen, the last thing I would do is unload a D. Deadline is February. Jusso back in March. I wouldn't take that risk, especially if we are still fighting for a playoff spot.

My favourite part about Andersson this season is how much he appears to have connected with Lucic. The perfect element for a young defenseman to add to his game is being properly nasty and difficult to play against. Lucic in his prime was a beast, and I'd love to see Andersson continue to adopt some of his aggression and tenacity. He's certainly well on his way already in that regard.

Flames sign Rasmus Andersson to 6 year extension ($4.55 mil AAV)

Even if he ahead of schedule, there is no way he’s body/timing/instincts will be playoff ready coming off such a long rehab.

Not just for your money. For everyone’s money outside the OBC brain trust and fans outside of Edmonton. Nurse projects to be Phaneuf with less offensive instincts.

Phaneuf had way more early career success than Nurse has had. Nurse's main assets are his his skating and size. His skating gets him into trouble trying to be Bobby Orr and the only time he uses his size is when he jumps people who are either smaller than him or not ready to fight. He is at best a #4 who needs a strong partner to keep things together on the ice.
Rasmus' main asset on the other hand is how he thinks the game. It slows down for him when the puck is on his stick and he rarely makes terrible plays. I also believe his offense will come. He scored a great goal the other night and a few games before that made an amazing offensive zone pass to Dube that showed his patience and vision.
He's understated because people who don't watch h play simply look at his points so far in the NHL.
