That was tough to watch. I lost count of how many times Canada would skate with the puck in to two Russians and have the puck knocked off his stick.

By contrast, Russia threw the puck around to each other like the globetrotters

It’s not skill, it’s size and strength. A super young Canada team vs an old Russia team. Canada lost every puck battle

10 returning players for Russia and many play in men’s leagues. They were just way stronger. Lafreniere was one of the few players on Canada willing to play physical

Gatorade. Rehydrate, replenish, refuel.

Excruciating

LOL. Listening to Ferraro in these tournaments is painful. Over the years he's really become a good broadcaster, but for this tournament he's a little jittery. I don't know if that's the word but he always just wants to talk too much. When he was moaning when Lafreniere went down, you'd think it was his best friend who died. It's too over the top at times and if he only took the time to think before speaking, it would be appreciated.

The thing that annoys the absolute #### out of me is when they talk about other games happening simultaneously. Like, Ferraro just blurts out the score in the Sweden game. I was taping that, you #######, why even mention a game that you're not commentating on? FFS.

Hayton not taking his helmet off is pretty bush league.

The Russians were right to call him out on it.

Win with class, lose with class.

Hayton should lose the captaincy for that. He didn't just embarrass himself, but the entire program. Too childish to lead this team.

I'm working and quit following the game so I didn't see what happened? Did he not take his helmet off for the Russian anthem?

Yup. Then lied to TSN about it after pretending he didn't know why they were upset at him, even though at least one Russian player had already told him.

Because it’s all happening live
Commentators are expected to tell the story of the entire tournament including other games

Here's video of the Hayton incident. Mostly reactions from the Russians.

One, he should lose his captaincy. It's embarrassing and petty.

Two, let's not forget that the Russians skated out on our anthem after they lost not long ago. So also screw them and their crocodile tears

Was there a reason why he didn't remove his helmet? A political motive?

You would hope this would be an opportunity to learn and grow, but then there's this:

The Russians were dog-piling on their latter goals like they had just won the gold. Can't really blame him for it. Anthems are stupid anyway.

I don't understand, you don't want to see your opposition dog piling after they scored? Don't let them score! That shouldn't be the excuse for not removing the helmet, whether you or anyone think anthems are stupid.

BTW, anthems are not stupid!

Doesn’t matter and yes you can. Let’s be careful and make sure we don’t make too big a deal about this, it’s a young man making a mistake in the heat of the moment, letting his emotions get the best of him, it will happen and hopefully with some time he’ll realize it was wrong, but’s it’s far from the end of the world.

That said, let’s not justify his poor judgement for him. He needs to show more maturity if he’s supposed to be our captain at this event.

Not in international sport anyway. NA Pro Sports is another discussion.

Agreed with the first part though. Canada is basically the NY Yankees of international hockey, they need to take their medicine when they get beat. International sports should be about respecting each other's countries.

I personally have no problem with this and I dont care who it is or what level of sport. The losing team having to sit by and watch the winners celebrations for 15 minutes is awful. The absolute last thing any athlete at any level of sport wants to do, after losing the big game is sit there watching the celebration.
