From what I've seen of Hanafin so far this year, that kid shines. His flow through the neutral zone is slick. He focused in the off season. Hats off

Yeah it's easy to forget how young he is since he's played so many games already. He's still improving.
Still can't believe that trade

I wouldn't trade Hanifin for Hamilton and a 1st right now.
And we have Lindholm too.
That trade is quickly becoming as good for us as the Gilmour trade was for the Leafs.

I like secondary scoring.
I love Rittich showing a Kipper like ability to bounce back.
I also have strong feelings towards zamler’s new PGT gif.

Backlund with only 2 points in 7 games. That's not good enough. Speaking of "not good enough" that officiating crew was terrible. Felt like watching a 2019 NFL game with all the bad calls.

That's really the Backlund takeaway you gleaned from last night's game?
I thought he was excellent last night. I think he's improved substantially in the last two or three games after overcoming that injury he sustained in the preseason.

He's had some very good scoring chances in the past few games and needs to bury them. Regardless of how good his two way game is it is imperative that the 2nd line picks up some of the scoring slack this season as it's unlikely Gaudreau, Monahan, and Lindholm score at last season's pace. That Flyers team didn't show up last night, started their backup goaltender, and the Flames still had to hang on to the very end.

While I definitely agree that it was a good trade and I wouldn't reverse it, Hamilton has 4 g 4a 8 points through 7 games, would lead us in scoring and is +8 playing +23 mins a night so far this season... he looks like he has taken a major step this year.

Plus the league runaway leader in (un)expected nut shots/60.

Good win. Elliott was decent and kept the Flyers in it as the Flames pushed the pace. Interesting to hear Hrudey rip on Gostisbehere so much. Always thought he was such a dynamic player.
Bennett....poor poor Bennett. Less then 9 mins of icetime and another minor penalty. Ah well, that 1 period he got in the top 6 is something I'll never forget.

He's had a really good start to the season for sure and really he should as he's always had the skills to be Norris caliber and it's always been a matter of playing smarter and maybe he's turning the corner. I will say the Flames do miss his shot from the point as even though he's never going to win a fastest shot competition he's got a heavy shot with good placement most of the time.

Dear Bill Peters,
The lines from the game last night.
Leave them alone for a bit.
Thank you

100% agree, his shot placement is fantastic. His ability to sneak in a bit to the top circle and get a shot through is what I miss most.
I also 100% agree with toonage, leave last nights lines be for a few games. I take back what I said about janko-Bennett they actually looked worthwhile out there. Maybe bring up dube to replace czarnik there and give him a shot. I think Neal was really hampering those guys.

I watched Bennett last night. On not less than a couple of occasions, you could see how being slotted on the 4th line is not helping
They showed, in the second intermission I believe, a highlight where Jankowski was struggling with the puck in his feet near the Flyers blue line. Bennett picked it up, drove towards the slot, taking a defender, passed the puck left to Jankowski, who got a weak chop on it and it went wide
That wasn’t the only time that Jankowski was struggling with the puck and Bennett picked it up
I saw shortly after that in the third Bennett approaching the opposing blue line and Czarnik making a cross ice pass that was way behind him, killing forward momentum and time and space, so he had to basically dump it in
It is disappointing because he is better than these guys.
What I would like to see is Peters do something like Burke said he did in Vancouver. Burke said he went in to the dressing room early in the season when they were struggling and told the team he wasn’t trading anyone until some certain date. It was up to them to get it together.
Now I would like to see Peters do that with his lines. Giving Bennett a chance in the top 6 for 6 minutes with the looming threat of demotion doesn’t seem to work
But if I recall correctly, Peters last year took the first 10 games as deliberately using the blender, then wanting to stabilize the lines after 10. I got that as the team was new to him, and feel like since the team has been kept mostly together, he should have a bit less blending this year

All those are meaningless come playoff time cause he has zero GAF. It’s also early in the season. Let’s see what his year end stats are like. I was big on him his first year here by year 2 I could see why Bruins were willing to move him.

It seems like Janko just hit a wall and doesn't care at this point. If he keeps up his current play, he may not even get a contract

Coach seemed fine with pushing Jankowski up the lineup when Backlund went out in the 3rd or am I missing something? Seems to indicate that they saw something and wanted to give him more ice.

Sometimes I think they try to avoid messing with the other lines as little as possible. Especially if Peters hears that it's only for a couple shifts. That's as likely a reason IMO.

This is why we have to be careful about drawing conclusions from stats. It has been posted a few times that the Flames' record is better when Bennett plays fewer minutes. Okay, what can we conclude from that? It implies that he is a disaster, and the less he plays, the better off the team is.
In reality however, he is one of the players who's ice time is reduced in the last 10 minutes when they have a lead. As a result, in games they win, he gets less ice time.

The Flames 4th line wasn't going to get any minutes so the easiest player to elevate without upsetting the other 2 lines was Jankowski.
