I dont get the kipper comparisons either...
Rittich plays much more like Dominik Hasek. He even made a stacked pads save last game lol

The 2nd line was the weakest last night. Backlund in particular was weak last night, while frolik didnt improve top much from the game before. Chucky was ok.
This is very out of character for me, but why not give benny a crack at centre beside chucky.
Top line
Tkachuk-bennett-mangipane
Reider-backlund-frolik
Lucic-ryan-janko

A funny thing last season was that for a long time, there was heavy reliance on the top line. It looked unsustainable, and the output post all star break seemed to support that view.
However, post all star break, it was the depth lines that really started churning out our offensive production. That too, appeared unsustainable.
Then we hit that playoffs and got nothing from just about any line combo we put out.
Hopefully we’ll get all the pieces to work more consistently when it counts this season.
But yeah, I think there is enough evidence over a long enough period of time to show that Peters needs to do something about that second line.
I’d move Bennett up there to see if he can continue where he left off from the playoffs because he was the one positive note (goalie aside).

Lucic’s Compete level is 100 times higher than the guy he was traded for. Neal can score 40 this year and I won’t care if we get effort like that every night. I still think a Lucic-Bennet-Tkachuk line needs to appear at some point this season.
Sounds like a massive locker room upgrade as well, and you can measure that in points. Hell, McLennan made a career from it.
I thought mangiapane looked good this year as well. Same with Bennett. Just no big results on the score sheet yet.

Honestly, it just feels good to be not at all concerned about goaltending.

Stretches where the Flames looked dominant and others where they were hemmed in their own zone. Still lots of room for improvement as timing still looks off for the majority of the team.

I think the Flames are still working through somethings which is what makes things exciting. What made the Flames so successful last year was we had at least 3 lines going each line. This year only really the first is chugging along while the others are trying to find their groove. I think Backlund looks noticeably hampered by his injury and Peters is still trying to find the right combos for the lines. I feel that there is a lot of room for attainable growth for this team, as they are still in their first gear.
It is going to be another fun season.

Yeah, he was pulled from a preseason game with a lower body injury. It looks like a groin injury as his skating was noticeably bad.

He was injured in the final preseason game, but it didn't appear to be serious, as he was ready to go for opening night in Colorado. I'm guessing that whatever this mysterious injury was is still bothering him somewhat.

Also liked how he learned from his dad to take care of the staff behind the scenes. Brett Favre was once asked by a young teammate about how to be successful, and his advice wasn’t about some special training technique or secret trick. He told him to learn the name of everyone in the building because they are the ones who will take care of you.
You can talk about culture but it’s only as good as the guys who are in the room and asked to live it and Chucky gets it. I bet he’s learning a lot from Gio and I’m glad he’s a Flame.

Peters mentioned in post game about looking at PP - I think he’s hinting at Lindholm returning to the right side.
Not sure if we will see that right away but it looks to me that it could help a lot.

I agree that the powerplay has been garbage in the first two games, but I don’t have any problem with the entries. The Flames have actually been quite consistent in gaining the zone, but the big issue has been all the standing around and bobbled plays in the setup. Everyone’s timing looks off, but I think a big problem has been Matthew Tkachuk. He is really struggling—which is unsurprising, but it is affecting his line and the #1 PP a lot. Once he gets going (hopefully before too long) I think the powerplay will look much better.
