Slow Lucic looks twice as fast as Neal.

Great pass by Lucic to Brodie. He has played really well.

Me too. But it's also the Flames fan summer statement equivalent of the Oilers 'we will be awesome this year!'

Lucic has already done more this season than Neal did last year.

That little flip pass and then set up a screen on that power play was great. Can you imagine if what happens is that he winds up on the top line somehow, and Johnny can play without everyone hacking away at him because Luch will take them apart? It could be perfect.

Come on guys... when Tkachuk signs he is not getting displaced by Lucic on the top PP. Good to see the Flames have a decent net front option for the second unit though.

Why not? Lucic is harder to clear from in front of the net and provides more size to execute screens. Tkachuk to PP2 spreads the talent.

Lucic adds to that PP unit. Brings a different look and I think his net front presence gives Johnny a bit more confidence to throw pucks in there.

Looch the pooch isn't too useless after all. Just needs to be used correctly, which Edmonton doesn't do with any player.

Also noticing that chemistry between Backlund and Bennett from early in 93's career has remained intact and should serve as a good stopgap for Chucky.

There's something to be said about potentially redistributing the offensive firepower of the team, too. Maybe the second unit can revolve around the 3M line and Ryan.

Probably a bad idea to play your highest paid player on your second powerplay unit.

It's especially difficult to kick Tkachuk off PP1 from London.

If Tkachuk is moved to the #2 pp, he is likely not breaking 70 pts this year.

fwiw last time he was on PP2 (with Backlund, Giordano, Bennett/Frolik, and Hamilton) we had probably the best PP2 in the NHL and rookie Tkachuk still had 13 PPP (and he has gotten better since then IMO.

Of course that was the year Troy Brouwer was the screen man on PP1 lol.

-1, 2 shots on net. Sounds about right.

Bennett looks like he's going to break out every pre-season. Remember when him and Brouwer looked incredible together?

Maybe he doesn't, but maybe Backlund cracks 55. Maybe Bennett, if he plays on that unit, cracks 40. And maybe Lucic cracks 35.

If having Tkachuk on PP2 creates more positive results across-the-board, I think the team would be fine with sacrificing a little of his individual production.

But heck, what do I know. Just throwing out ideas, that's what preseason is for.

It’s Oileresque to worry about individual points over winning.
