That's all you need to win a playoff series.

Execution is the only thing missing right now, getting clear cut chances only to be bobbled away or taking too many touches with the puck.

Ya its a confidence thing too. Too much perimeter play. They keep going from the half wall to the D and back, repeat. Need to get some cross seam passes going and get some traffic/rebounds.

Yup. Positives.
Chances that our "elite 5" stay this quiet for another 3 weeks to make for a quick first round exit are pretty low.
But goaltending trending up is very encouraging and arguably the more important thing to see closing out the season.
Here's to a Jets sweep of the green goblins of texas.

It is. SN showed the stats during the LA game I think. It was during the intermission.
Flames were something like 29-5-? vs non playoff and 18-16-? vs playoff teams.

I feel that if you watched the flames at the beginning of the season we were transitioning up the ice much quicker with shades of last year's Vegas team. Now I feel like they are thinking too much and or slow playing it again.
Frolik made a play tonight that reminded me of the dark GG days where he tried to force a pass past a Dallas player back to our D from the blue line. This is the type of mentality that killed us last year and I feel like we aren't doing what made us dangerous early in the year as much

Its a stupid stat when you think about it.
47 wins 23 losses.
Would we rather have more losses against non playoff teams?
Unless you want to read into it in a weird way, I don't get the usage of that stat.

Disagree about positioning. That's one thing he was doing right tonight, he was in places where the puck was going, often got possession but then would relinquish it to a Star, mainly due to his hands moving in slow motion. If he could move his stick with half the agility of Gaudreau, he would've had some great opportunities. Neal in Vegas was getting goals by just wiring pucks without much stick handling preceding it, since it didn't appear to be there for him then either. The man just needs to do the same thing here. Use his one gift and cut out most of the rest.

Felt like the guys were holding onto the puck too long before shooting. Dallas was blocking a ton of shots just by getting their sticks in the way. Even on Brodie's goal, the defender was like a quarter second late getting his stick in the way or else that would have been another block.
The shots that were getting through were a lot of low danger shots from outside.

Looking at the bags under monahan's eyes makes me think that he most likely hasn't fully recharged after whatever illness held him out of the Winnipeg game

That first goal was stupid. 3 players back and not 1 player takes the body. Ri-god-damn-diculous . All puck watching. Make the physical play there .

They've done this three or so times this year, where they got into their heads and their game slowed down as a result and became extremely east-west.
When they pulled out of it they'd figure out to simplify their games and move the play north-south with haste relentlessly, while activating the D frequently.
Doesn't take a detective to figure out what makes the team click into one of the most cohesive and effective 5 man units in the league.
These guys just need to get out to the mountains and meditate near a stream for an afternoon (seriously) and come back frustration-free, and more in touch with their instincts. They trip themselves up overcomplicating every play, visibly questioning every decision in the neutral to o-zone rather than going off instinct which has steered them right this season on so many occasions.

Those bags were very noticeable. I have watched every flames game since 08. It had me thinking " when did he have his nose broken?" . That's typically what you see when one has broken the bridge of there nose.

Not yet. Pissing away these points could be a very big deal if they lose the SJ game.
Also, it's hard to believe that Monahan, Lindholm, Gaudreau and the PP will just turn it on in the playoffs if they can't turn it around in the next five games.

It seems like they just don't feel the need to push.
Look back a few weeks, they had a 7 point lead and that's when they started the losing streak. We all lost our minds around here because they actually lost the division lead to the Sharks.
Then, as soon as they lose the lead we see the scoring go through the roof!!!
Now they have the gap again with a six point lead and they are back to the same thing, lack of scoring, not urgency, losing games that they should crush.
Part of me thinks they are just kind of cruising until they can get in to the playoffs. I just don't like it, they should be striking fear into everyone in the west, not taking it easy.
