The only way a goal should ever be disallowed, is if it's on an illegal play (a play where a penalty should be called). These ticky tack goaltender interference calls are such a grey area, the NHL is setting itself up for ridicule once again. You'd think they learned with the laughable "player in the crease" rule, but nope. Same #### different year.

And to think they want scoring to be up, then they implement the goalie interference and off-side reviews. One step forward, two steps back.

I think people better get used to the fact that reffing will never go Calgarys way. It’s always kinda been that way, even though it’s accentuated now more than ever before.

All fans feel their teams get the raw end of the deal but I haven’t felt like Calgary got away with one for a long time. And yet they’re quite high in PP opportunities. It’s strange but it just feels like one of those things you have to not really worry too much about- it’s not like it’s going to change anytime soon and most importantly it’s out of the Flames control. They kinda have to just play their game. Yes the refs screw them. But we’ve known this for a long time.

Well, that's a dismissive comment that ignores how the Flames were actually doing reasonably well for a lot of last season before the goaltending fell off a cliff and the offense utterly disappeared. Sounds a little like this season, except the collapse has come a little bit later, there's more hope it can be rectified, and the first part of the season was significantly better.

But the fact that the team has taken a step back around this time of year for the second consecutive season is more than a little worrying, IMO.
I think you aren’t remembering how last season went at all. They were a bad team playing bad hockey held up by Mike Smith in the first half of season. They were always a playoff bubble tea, fighting for playoff lives for the whole season.

This year has a new coach, new culture and a winning team that has been in first place for a couple months now and not once since maybe mid to late November has there been any doubt as to whether or not they were gonna be a playoff team.

They are a much better team than last year and it’s quite frankly not even remotely close and a similar looking results streak is a weak way to drive a panic narrative.

I honestly have no idea what is wrong with Monahan but he needs to be scratched for a couple of games. He is not playing like he did earlier this season. At all. I don't care if he manages to still get points on a secondary assist or tap in goal. As a forward, he is not effective. The puck is easily sliding off his stick and the play does. Johnny tries to carry in by himself and gets worked because he has no support. Tonight I thought Chucky had a good game, but other than that, I feel that he has also been largely invisible.

I am concerned. I don't care about the last 7 game win streak. What i care about is our current 3 game slide and that for the last 7 games, we have been greatly lacking offensively.

Do you enjoy hockey? Or like the Flames at all? Serious question. All of your posts are filled with vitriol.

There is a month to go in the season to get a lot of things sorted out. Good and bad, and they still have thier destiny in their hands for the Pacific and the West.

And as it stands now the Flames don’t play either of those teams in R1.
Sorry Loren, I wasn't directing the "not paying attention" part to you, just the records vs Vegas and SJ was. I wasn't sure how to word that in general terms, sorry to offend .

I absolutely agree there's plenty of time left and a lot of reasons to be optimistic, but our control over our destiny is slipping away quickly.

SJ is 3 points back with a game in hand now. They win that, and their game against us and we're out of the driver's seat and we are suddenly facing Vegas in round 1.

Good hockey game. Playoff style like Hrudey said.
Absolutely brutal call on the overturned goal, but its hockey. You live with it. Get em in Calgary.

The no goal call was absolutely ridiculous. But the real concern is the team and, specifically, the top line. They look completely lost out there.

A couple months ago JH made #### happen on every shift. Now he turns the puck over with regularity. His poor play has effectively neutered Monny too. He looks useless out there.

Teams are turning it up down the stretch run. And we are doing the opposite.

I’m worried.

The challenging has to be cut down. Maybe giving the coaches 30 seconds to challenge from the moment the whistle is blown before the opportunity is revoked? Could have a countdown on the TVs/jumbotron

If it's that egregious, the players involved should know right away. MAF and the players didn't react, because it was a fine play. But coach got to look at replays and think about it, then put his bid in. A lot of challenges are rather delayed now and used more as a hail mary tactic to try and change the game in their favor on the chance that one of the refs can construe what they see as an offence, rather being used to enforce the rulebook on blatant plays.

It's becoming frickin' balogna.

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
#Flames captain Mark Giordano on disallowed goal: “You know what? I never talk about the calls, but that’s a huge call in a 2-1 game to get that one disallowed. We’ll look at it. We thought it should have counted. It was a tough call and that’s the difference in a one-goal game.”

Still 6 points up on Nashville... oh yeah, and they’ve played two more games than we have! I bet they blow out Arizona tomorrow.

Hardly. Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan were on pace for career seasons for much of last year. The Flames were driving possession (even if it was boring, boring hockey) and were solidly in a divisional playoff spot for a whole lot of the season.

Yeah, the Flames are much better this season and their grasp on a playoff spot is a lot better thanks to the West being a whole lot weaker and their own much better start.

But, for the second consecutive year, Gaudreau and Monahan have seen their offense almost completely dry up in late February and into March. The team is in a better spot but its drivers are performing a similar disappearing act to what we saw last year. With Monahan, we know it was injury-related last year, but I have no idea what the cause is this year.

For Gaudreau -- remember when he was on pace for 120 points earlier this season? That's dipped down to 102 and it's continuing to fall. Last year, Gaudreau was on pace for 98 points late in February and wound up with just 84, scoring just 5 goals in his last 23 games.

It's worrying that we're seeing this dip in production for another consecutive year.
