I'd have to think Smith gets the start. He hasn't been overworked and I can't imagine their is a lot of faith in Gillies

It's Rittich if he can go, Smith if he can't.

Great question. Peters has said he was used in more of a shutdown role but that doesn’t totally explain his crazy jump in production.

It’s definitely due in part to his linemates. But obviously the guy has taken a massive step this year.

Could you imagine if this was a contract year for him? All the talk would be how much credit to give his linemates.

That bad goal by Howard was the turning point imo.

Happy for Smith, keep it going.

Flames on pace for 108 points.

Shaky first against a determined Detroit team who played to the best of their ability, but Flames acquitted themselves well. Smith was solid overall, which is an encouraging sign. They gave up way too many odd-man chances and got caught on the wrong side when on defence and were it against a better team they would have gotten burned.

Johnny Hockey is all world right now, amazing to watch every game. good that they got the job done, happy that Brodie scored in front of a home crowd. need a tighter defensive effort against the bruins.

Why are the Oilers complaining about a third period comeback in a game which we were tied after 2?

Now that Johnny is 1 point ahead of McSowonderful, I'm sure the league will somehow manufacture a couple of second assists for him tonight, unless his team got shutout.

If it wasn't clear before, it's abundantly clear now, Treliving (and co) are playing chess while the rest of the league plays checkers. Not only did they get a secret agent to dismantle an opponent from within (Chiarelli of course) they played the long con where Peters was set to come to Calgary years ago, so he downplayed Zebulon and Hanifin in his tenure with Carolina so that when his contract option came up, he jumped ship to Calgary and brought his best, "underperforming" players with him, Tre just had to pull the easy trigger.

Mike Illitch really has passed. For 20 years, the Flames or any other team in tight games in the third, and it's the Wings getting pps mid 3rd period was something you could set your watch to.

This team is playing great and is tied for 2nd in the league with Toronto, who is also playing unbelievable hockey. Crazier still, both teams are as many points from first as they are from being out of the playoffs. Insane

Play for the Oilers is what he'd do next. The man's record as a Flame is dead to me. It's like looking at old photos of your ex wife.

And I'm not sure what North Edmonton SpaLady we've slid into, but that woman has 6 toes on her left foot.
