Terrible game, worst in a long time.
Only silver lining is the rest of the OOT games had a favourable result.

That was a terrible game. Easy to see the team is running on fumes right now with the injuries and hectic schedule.
Kudos to Dallas though. They're playing some tight hockey with a d core that is depleted like none other.

I thought Czarnik looked decent in the preseason, but in limited ice time over just 22 games he's managed to accumulate the second worst +/- on the team to Neal. His offensive potential doesn't make up for his defensive failings.

Flames were flat (3 in 4, end of roadie, depleted roster, bad ice favours Dallas - reasons but not excuses). I can't think of one really good save by either Dallas goalie.
Dallas was good (they are underrated because of their away record, but they seem to be well coached and they have Calgary's number this year). They played a good road game, only at home.
This could have been 4-0 - Rittich was pretty cleanly beaten on the two posts hit by Dallas. Or more - Rittich also made several good stops.
I still think Hathaway gets looked at by DPS. He's kinda lucky there was no injury.

Dallas was ready and you could tell. Season is a marathon and there will be games like this. Put the loss behind and move on to the TB game.

Flames strategically threw this game to give Dallas a chance to catch the Oil.
It's pretty obvious at this point that Peters reads CP (Kylington on the wing, blending the lines), so he is trying to make our Christmas wishes come true.
Maybe he would do an AMA.

Gotta say, I thought Czarnik in Neal's spot in practice was a placeholder, because I fugured there's no way he fits on that line. He's a guy who flies down the wing. Tkachuk and Backlund play at a more controlled pace. Quine would have been a better fit. Maybe even Hathaway.
Czarnik needs a new stick like Neal - he seems to fan a lot.

Gotta say, I understand why Peters has been sitting Czarnik when the team is healthy. He is not very responsible with the puck, doesn't win his one on one battles, and doesn't forecheck or backcheck very well. Sure he shows offensive flashes now and then, but he does not show them consistently enough to play every night.
Hathaway, however, proved to me last nigh why he is in the lineup every night. That man plays with a ton of pace. He really made the most of his 10 minutes.

I was one of Hathaway's strongest detractors from last season, but he looks so much better this year. He looks like an NHL player, which is a big improvement.

Hathaway has NHL level skating. He might not bring much skill to the game, but he has the ability to be involved in every play because of his skating ability.

Hathaway has over 40 min of shorthanded minutes and only 1 PPG against.
I am sad though that he changed his number to 21 since I nicknamed him Nintendo 64 because of #64.

Any one have any impressions of Kerby Rychel?
I don't think he has looked impressive in open ice, That said, down low in the offensive zone he is effective. I'm not sure how many more games he will get, especially once Neal and Bennett are healthy.

Behind Hathaway with roughly the same skill set. Frankly not as good as Lazar when doing the same tasks.

The refs call that trip on faksa during that one pp and we probably tie it. What happens after is a mystery. That was a blatant missed call. Ah well cant win em all. This game was a good measuring stick in a way. The Dallas team is a heavy team and showed what our team looks like stacked up against them. Dallas played tight back checked ferociously and exerted that size and grit on the flames all night. I'd like to see a rematch when both teams have more bodies back. Flames need to find a game plan for this type of hockey which will ultimately look as playoff hockey does. The team was gassed first two periods and weren't connecting on passes and bobbled pucks. Ice looked really rough.
Also how many empty seats were there? Americans sure can be fickle towards hockey. Tough game, good third. On to the next one.

I don't like when calls like that are referred to as missed calls. The broadcast mentioned they just flat out missed it, too.
A missed call means the refs missed it, that was an intentional non-call of a clear penalty. It was situational. "We're not putting this team down two men right now, nope not calling it".

If there is any concern I have for last game it’s one where we heard Peters talk about how they can play any type of game. He was referring to MIN being a tight low scoring, low event game and STL or other high scoring games. But it seemed last night and even the EDM road game, CGY wanted to play a way that wasn’t suited to that opponent.
I found that when teams bottle the neutral zone CGY needs to play a retrieval game like they did in MIN but they failed to do that in the other examples. Lots of individual play trying to stickhandle through too many guys.
Gio made mention of it in his post game comments. Just get it deep and play that game - words to that effect.
There can be a tendency to do too much, over pass etc. Just play it more simple against teams that try to slow everything down and play very defensive.
Now having said that you want CGY to play to their identity of being a fast skilled team and not lose that mentality. It’s a difficult balance I suppose but you want to see them generate in tight checking games.
Getting shots on net first and foremost opens up he passing lanes for later in the game. If you over pass you end up getting nothing immediate and no later dividends.
