I have never heard of Valiev or Taormina, but any time Treliving wants to make a trade with Bergevin, I say "by all means, trade away, good sir!"

Kulak was adamant that the ripple effect from his arbitration case was not the reason for Monday’s trade.

“I don’t think so,” he said. “Me and Brad talked through that whole thing and was like, ‘This is how the business works and that’s why things like that are in place for those situations. We talked and it’s just business and it’s nothing personal. We both get along really well and have a really good relationship. There’s nothing bad between us and the organization.

“It’s a new start … I’m excited.”

Flames like Valiev

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
now
Treliving says as Valimaki emerged, they wanted to give Kulak an opportunity elsewhere.

Also says Valiev, who the team received from Montreal, is well liked by management. Says he’s got a chance to play in the NHL full-time. #Flames

Gotta like how the Flames try to handle player management with class. I am rooting for Kulak, I hope he has a great season.

I can't wait to see if they like Valiev more than Kylington for the first call-up on LD?

Default 2014 Predraft notes on Valiev

https://www.draftsite.com/nhl/player...-valiev/19883/

"Mobile defender with emerging defensive abilities and good up ice instincts. Good soft hands. His long term potential was on a huge upswing until he decided after the Five Nations Tourney, to return home to mother Russia without warning to his Indy teammates and staff. He is being reported as out indefinitely "due to injury", and that injury might have be North American culture overdose. He wasn't attempting to learn English and it also caused issue to him being coachable. You have to wonder if this player who at one point potential first rounder has dropped his stock completely out of the draft, but now has resurfaced on the Kootenay squad with new commitment."

They had him projected at #57 in the second round

Maybe another high ceiling risky guy like Kylington was???

Different game all together for him. Very mobile hitter who's actually better in his own zone.

His English is great when watching a bunch of Marlies interviews with him.

Treliving on 960 says they tried to acquire Valiev when Valiev was still with Toronto.

Says he was the key to the deal.

Needs to work on getting quicker

This makes a lot of sense to me.

Kootenay played the Hitmen in the playoffs both years Valiev was there. Flames brass would have seen him a pile those years.

Here's a little tidbit not mentioned on capfriendly.

The agreement will be worth $650,000 at the NHL level and $80,000 in AHL salary, with $105,000 guaranteed.

And just 5 months ago, there was this.

After a brief stint with the Montreal Canadiens after the trade deadline, it looks like Rinat Valiev will be going to play in the KHL

There would be a spot for the young defenceman on Laval’s blueline, but after spending the last three years in the minors, it looks like he’s done with it.

Wicked shot from Rinat Valiev

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9eWi7Eml-8

I see Matt Taormina is injured, wow he scores a lot of points!

They changed the format of capfriendly a bit.

If Valiev plays the whole season in the minors and earns $80K, is the other $25K in bonuses?

How does that work?

Say he got a cup of coffee at the NHL level and plays just 2 games (like with the habs) he makes 7,926 a game at the NHL level (650000 / 82 ) two games at the NHL level would net him around 15K which would give him 95K for the year. 105K is a guarentee whether he plays a couple of games at the NHL or no games at the NHL this year so kinda of like a bonus for sure. The flames probabaly expressed their intent going forward and the extra 25K guarenteed whether he’s called up this year or not is a pretty good add in by the Flames.
