A question based on the 1a / 1b / 3a / 3b lines in the "New" NHL...does anyone have the approximate minutes break-down for Vegas last year?
I'm guessing they are the prime example of rolling 4 lines. And it seemed to work for them. Even watching them play you could just see the effect of wave-after-wave of energy and tenacity on teams.
So if they're the model...what is the formula? How many minutes did their lower-lines get per night?

Yeah our 3/4 lines were not good enough for those minutes last season. Bad coaching.

Ya - I think we'll all feel better about the 21 minutes per night of ES we get from our 3rd and 4th this year. Amounting to > 33% of the game!

This is exactly what I was thinking. It isn't like the Flames have a glaring need for him. But if he makes them an offer they can't refuse than give him a spot.

He might if he keeps playing like this. I would not hesitate to keep Lazar and Czarnik, Peluso and Hathaway as my scratches if he proves he belongs

But are we forgetting that this is the same Dube that made it to the LAST cut of main camp last year? Where he played lights out and made an impression not only on our terrible coach GG but also on Johnny who verbally expressed to the media that he was surprised Dube was cut?
There's a lot of excitement around the kid, as a Flames fan I think its fantastic to be able to be super hopeful and upbeat on a 2nd round pick that may turn out to be a home run if he can keep it up.
I get that people want to be reserved, but there's no doubt in my mind that this kid is the real deal and I personally hope he steals a spot this year. At first I too was hesitant and part of the majority group who thinks having Dube be #1C in the AHL is better than bottom 6 in the NHL but I've changed my mind.
I think the Flames forward group this year lends itself to be more of a 1a/1b and 3a/3b instead of the standard 1/2/3/4 where the the 4th line gets very little minutes. I think your top 2 lines get the lions share of offensive starts and big PP minutes but I feel our 3a/3b lines should equally split 13-15 minutes of playing time and Dube's skill set based on 2 years of viewing to me slots in perfectly.
Normally I'm about as pessimistic as they come, but in this case I cant help but be optomistic as it would be a great hometown story here as a Cochrane kid which normally doesn't mean much but based on what he's shown thus far I'm truly pulling for him.
If he makes the team I'm buying a Dube 3rd Jersey - Quote it.

To add to your comments from last year's camp, Dube had good chemistry with Jankowski anytime I saw them together.
My view may be skewed, I was one of 7 who voted for Dube as our #1 prospect this year and I mentioned the Brayden Point comparison back in July, but I can say for sure he is far better than Lazar and Hathaway.
He outplayed Lazar and Hathaway last camp and he sure doesn't look worse this year.
I definitely think he should make the team and I believe he will outplay other players that will make the roster. The only question will be if the flames brass is willing to waive anyone to have him make the team out of camp. If I'm Tre I'm waiving Hathaway.

He waived Hathaway last year. I don’t think any team would claim Lazar, Klimchuk, or Hathaway at this point and all three players could benefit from bigger minutes in the AHL.
If the team is sticking with the “always earned” mantra I don’t see how Dube doesn’t at least start the year with the team. Tanner Glass came in and did what was asked of him by management without a contract and got a roster spot FFS

Bennett played his best hockey with Backlund and Frolik.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Neal/Lindholm
Tkachuk - Ryan - Lindholm/Neal
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Dube - Jankowski - Czarnik
Klimchuk, Lazar
I am of the opinion that Dube should get top line AHL minutes, but, if he makes it, that 4th line could easily be our 2nd line on some nights.

My nephew played with him all through minor hockey. Kid was a phenomenal minor hockey player. Issue was always size.
Should have been top WHL pick but wasn't because of size. Turned out to be a great WHL player but size was issue going into NHL draft. Proving them wrong again. One of my favourite non-Flames players. If only the Flames picked him that draft.

I think it will be a dog fight between Dube and Mangiapane for that spot, and that Mangiapane is ahead right now.

Brayden Point sure would have made Bennett not living up to the hype less painful.

What a bad draft day for the Flames.
All the players we picked are looking like busts or are out of the organization.

Yup, that Sam Bennett guy is never going to play in the NHL.
