Does anyone have any insights into the Stadium shopping centre redevelopment? It seems to have stalled out but the mall is also mostly vacant now. https://skyrisecities.com/news/2016/...ersity-heights

Italian Centre Shop needs to open a location in the NW. As close to me as possible.
The cashier said that they get a lot of people asking, and she knows that other locations are being considered. She didn’t know where or when though.

Scarpone’s/The Italian Store is still a good place, but still a bit of a trek. Lina’s was never my favourite, but I went in there a few months ago and it looks like they’d nearly given up on groceries and are focusing mostly on the cafe and food.

Save-on-Foods is opening another Calgary store in the SW at Richmond Rd & Sarcee Trail tomorrow.
The new store is beside Canadian Tire and GoodLife Fitness. They've spent the last year gutting the space that was part of the old Richmond Square mall back in the 80's/90s for the new store.

This will be welcome only for making online grocery delivery from Save-on easier.

Otherwise, access to that mall from Sarcee is already a massacre even with Canadian "Dollar store" Tire being the sole tenant. I'll continue avoiding that development like the plague.

Appears the old Safeway at 16th Ave & 52 St NE is being turned into a Save-on-Foods also.

I've only ever been to Save on Foods once in a different city so I don't know much about it, pricing and demographics. Isn't there already a Save On at 52nd and 17th Ave SE, essentially 30 blocks away? Also one on 52nd and 36 Ave NE or something? Shouldn't they diversify a bit more?

Sobey's at that location, there's a No Frills further west on 17th.

From what I can tell from the outside, it appears that the online delivery area has its own entrance.

Agree about the access. The 4-way stop at 51st St & 39th Ave was sufficient before, but not now. If I can avoid using that intersection, I do. Hopefully, the owner had to kick in a few bucks for traffic signals there with the renovations, but I doubt it.

I'm surprised that GoodLife there is as busy as it is. Gym bros gotta go somewhere I guess. Home Outfitters is usually very quiet. Canadian Tire is steady. With Save-on opening, the parking lot will be the fullest its been in decades.

Wasn't really the 4-way stop, moreso the lights on Richmond coming from Sarcee. Often the left hand turn lane would backup past its dedicated length.

And luckily, I'm interested in their delivery service (aka don't even go near there) rather than the click & collect type system.

Everything is closed in there now except I think the Keg and Moose Macguires. Just seems weird that basically all the tenants are gone and no real construction activity seems imminent.

I was wrong. I'm not in that area very often but I thought there was a bunch of Save on Foods. I guess I was confusing them with the No Frills.

It’s easier for a developer to kick everyone out, demolish everything and leave a fenced off dirt field to collect weeds for a few years than to manage buildings with tenants and time their closures all just before construction.

Saigon Star is still open at the University Shopping Centre. Thank goodness, it's great for a quick lunch from the Foothills complex.
